Footman James Coffee & Chrome August 2023

The third Coffee & Chrome meeting of 2023 was held at the prestigious Impney Estate on the 6th August. In Footman James’ 40th birthday year what better way to celebrate than with a huge gathering of diverse classic cars.

Some interesting metal on display. You are right about the Focus being a complete step change from the Escort. Now I look at modern cars and they all look the same ( yes, I am getting old !) to the point where I can only tell you what something is if I look at the badge. Not the case with the Focus. Quite radical for Ford but it didnt hurt sales. Another good video Simon - I do have a complaint to make though ...no Mercs or Beemers !

Actually Kevin, there were few Mercs around, a few SLKs and 2x190E (one was mine)... I'll seek out a few more next time!!

Another superb video Simon and what a selection of cars. You rightly say Renault built some 4CV's for the UK market but I didn't realise until last year that UK cars were not actually badged as a 4CV. Instead they were known as the 750. The early P1800 were indeed assembled by Jenson but I believe the bodies were manufactured by Pressed Steel in Scotland. Love the Stevens Esprit and in red just as featured in video games of the period. I remember the Paul Smith mini being in the mini magazines in the late 90's/early 2000's. It's around two years since I last saw a Scorpion. They are supposed to be great fun to drive. I remember a feature in either Top Gear or Fifth gear where an owner proclaimed them to be more fun than a Ferrari. The R5 GT Turbo is indeed a phase 2 and the white is probably the colour most associated with these cars. That Triumph Vitesse is everything we aspire to in a classic car. The Porsche 928 was probably a decade ahead of its time. Agree entirely with you on the mk1 Focus. Ford really moved the game on with these.

Thanks for watching Mark and commenting, with the 4CV I had no idea that they produced vehicles in the UK (like Citroen did in Slough) I was flying a kite, a little bit with the R5 Turbo, but at least I recognised it, wasn’t a pre-facelift car. The one that puzzled me was the Citroen AX special edition? Overall, this was an absolutely cracking show put on by Footman James, and to top it all (appealing to my inner Yorkshireman) it was free, including a complimentary bacon, butty! It’s a bit far for you, but it would be good to see you there, I’m sure your Megane would be appreciated.

I love an owner with a good sense of humour! To be fair, they do drive well I had three of the old ones, but sadly my hair fell out a long time ago!

@Lot76CARS Haha .. 100% my brother had one in a purple colour.. I only went out in it once, but 2 men seen together in one of these is just a red flag for me 😂
