Once Upon a Time in The West would have been the 4th movie if Eastwood had signed on to the movie. It's well worth the watch.

The story goes that Leone wanted Clint to play just a walk on roll and Clint chose instead a bigger part in HANG 'EM HIGH, which was filmed at about the same time.

The boyfriend didn't die, Mortimer was the boyfriend and lived through it. It's what made life precious to him, he came so close to losing it. Returning the money will make him $40,000. Keeping it would be more but risky. If Mortimer tells anybody they found the money and Clint didn't return it, now Clint is in trouble with the law and has a bounty out on himself.

Jade: The best Western Clint Eastwood ever made or in my opinion was ever made is "The Outlaw Josey Wales" 1976 starring and directed by Clint Eastwood. It was based on a book "Gone to Texas" by Forrest Carter and has the best production value by far of all his westerns. In your review/reaction of Western Movies I believe you and your audience would greatly enjoy " The Outlaw Josey Wales". You have a great channel and your reactions are succinct and intelligent. As you may be aware, Clint Eastwood turned 94 years old on May 31, 2024. All the best, Kenneth

Sergio Leone made these movies as he was filming his playing as a kid.. with gunslingers and baddies and so on. They are pure product of art. However he always made some historical research so they are quite historical accurate. But they are as narrative totally different from the American movies about the Frontier and the old West. These movies set a new standard for the genre.. it was never the same sfter the Dollar Trilogy and even more after OUTITW. Without doubts the 4 movies are the peak of the genre. Tombstone and The hateful 8 and Django come close but they come short on "epic". The soundtrack alone marks the whole difference.

Actually there is a somewhat chronological order to this trilogy. It's The Good The Bad and The Ugly, then A Few Dollars More, then A Fistful of Dollars. ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST starting a new "Trilogy" (with "once upon a time revolution" and "Once Upon a Time in America"). This was the "born of the capitalism" trilogy! Once Upon in the West rappresented the end of the old west and its heroes, and starting of the new capitalism era (rappresented by the TRAIN). This is most "eternal" , elegiac and serious movie in front of the Dollars Trilogy. Charachters are more GIANTS (like the old western heroes) and a woman is the CENTRE of the movie for the first time! A very strong woman (Jill) that in the end of the movie rappresented "LIFE" (she carry the water) a new life for the born of the modern America. And for the first time the great and iconic Henry Fonda (John Ford's actor) interpreting a villain... The Morricone's score is one of the greatest and emotional ever written! The beginning of the movie is also a masterpiece of real sounds (without music) that start a new kind of cinema... Probably is the greatest western ever made as mentioned in every movie magazines and site. Scorsese and the whole new directores generation adore this movie!

@MovieJoob You probably won't believe this, but it's 8:43 PM, the sun is still shining and it's 72° F, which is why they call this the Land of the Midnight Sun. Definitely T Shirt weather!

One more Sergio Leone Western to go, "Once Upon A Time In The West", unless you also want to watch "Duck, You Sucker", aka "A Fistful Of Dynamite", which is a movie about the Mexican Revolution. Leone has a message with each of these movies.

If watching both those then you should complete the (once upon a time) trilogy by watching Once Upon a Time in America. Classic epic and often overlooked mob movie.

I agree with everyone who is recommending Once Upon a Time in the West. It has the BEST opening scene for a western ever I think. If you want to stick with Eastwood westerns, there are a bunch of really good ones. In no particular order, The Outlaw Josie Wales” (sorry, I probably misspelled the name), Joe Kidd, and High Plains Drifter. They are all very good. Of this trilogy, this is definitely my favorite. The relationship between the two “good” characters is just so great and the revenge theme is a classic in westerns. Although I think the characters in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly are fantastic, the movie IMO suffers from not so great editing. And it’s got one too many “travel scenes” in it, which combined these two things make the movie about 30 minutes longer than it should be. But it’s still a great film, it’s just not my personal favorite of these three. I hope you jump into classic Japanese samurai films. I think you would really like them, they share some things “feeling wise” with westerns. I am sure you would like Yojimbo (the plot will be very familiar to you), and The Seven Samurai is a must see movie for anyone IMO, but I think you will really enjoy it.

A few movies that have the "feel" of westerns, but are set in a more modern era.... "No Country for Old Men" (Yeap...already mentioned that one several times 😋) and "Hell or High Water".

If you like the spaghetti westerns, there is another classic pair called "They call me Trinity" and the sequel "Trinity is still my name". Much more lighted hearted comedy spaghetti westerns movies but also classics. Check them out...ps you will like the eyes :)

To heck with the blankie, if yer cold what you need is a poncho, like Clint. Also, now you need to watch "The Magnificent Seven", but watch Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" first. And yes, "One Upon a Time in the West" is another classic "spaghetti western". If you want more suggestions of westerns to watch, just watch anything directed by John Ford. Nice work here as per usual, ma'am.

I enjoy watching your reviews. However, you should be aware at the time these films were released the approbation "Spaghetti Western" was a perjorative. They certainly weren't considered in the mold of a classic western, but more of a satire on the genre.
