@Threestylejazz are you going to mention which synchronizer / clock /controller you are using?

My A820 24-Track is setup for SMPTE Sync on Track 24 but I cannot find a procedure in the manual or anywhere else to stripe the tape. Can you share this procedure with me?

If you know C programming you can generate the sound the SMPTE makes with any old PC soundcard. It's an open standard. For extra credit you could calibrate the soundcard to a radio time signal like WWV or CHU with a bitmap and a Goertzel Algorithm centered around 1000 hertz, and use a resampling algorithim on the SMPTE sound to be 1 PPM accurate.

@@brentfisher902 haha its not that simple.... I have been in the TV broadcasting industry since the 60s and time code is only a locator. The controllers must have full control over the transport. The master time code signal gets send to a transport. The transport hunts for this time on a playback command. If the tape is already at the time code position, the machine enters the playback mode. The controller will advance or retard the capstan to be in perfect sync with the master. Once the machines obtain synch usually some form of indicator will be present to indicate full sync. The capstan will stay locked to a sync frequency usually around 240hz this sync signal is generated by the master sync signal, usually the record machine. Broadcast video tape machine are normally very fussy about the initial sync-up time. During an edit, each machine is send the time code for thier "cue time". At this point the tape machine will either fast fwd or rewind to get to their cue-point, then the controller with signal its in the ready state. Upon a "preroll" command the tape machine enters the "hunt mode" trying to lock to the incoming timecode. Once it is locked, the controller sends a "locked" signal to notify the editing computer that all the machines are in sync. Then an edit can take place. I worked at the largest post production facility on the east coast on USA. We made our own time code controllers for all the carious equipment we had
