revival sigh
Mulder and Scullys very complicated relationship- so mysterious and contrary- it'll always keep us guessing, I love it. I love how they've grown and changed with all these years of shared history, but always circle each other in an elliptical orbit: perigee and apogee but always around again :) ...so the revival rumors never freaked me out as much as some because that's always how it's been for them- complicated.
I've probably vidded this idea a time or ten already, I don't even know anymore.
This started out with Adele's 'hello' but as you guys know, that song gets instantly muted w/o pitching it wildly- on top on it, there were SO many XF vids to it already...so I reworked it with a new song
(☢Crazy excessive fangirl musings- no, really)
This deals with the state of MSR in the revival- why they aren't together anymore (and no I haven't seen the first ep or heard anything much about it)
'Truest truths that binds us together or keep us painfully desperately apart' to quote Scully as she so astutely put it. I think we definitely saw large cracks forming in IWTB- large differences in where they were in their lives and what they wanted/needed...no longer on the same page or perhaps finally their famous inability to communicate well verbally caught up to them-
The things that most brought them together- now drive a wedge between them. (The most prophetic words ever in the show I think are when Mulder says 'I just wouldn't want this to come between us' in per manum- his spidey sense tingling again)
I've heard people say the Samantha issue isn't relevant anymore- that it's so far in the past, but I totally disagree- Mulders response to this loss still defines who he is in the present- it represents the decay at the heart of his early family life, his insecurity, a conflicting view of what family means to him (both salvation and entrapment, love and fear) and it also perfectly demonstrates his inability to let anything go...how he holds onto and nurses loss. Mulder willingly drowns in his emotions and Scully tries to ice skate across hers- we saw this again and again in the series and the conflict this would cause between them.
SO, I think the loss of William would have been catastrophic for Mulder in a way unique to him- being yet another erosion of any kind of family life he'd hoped for- naturally he couldn't ever let it go cause that's his personality- he doesn't want to, but some part of him blames Scully for giving up their son the way his parents also gave up Sam- he's trapped in the eternal return. He also blames himself because he failed to protect William, as he failed Sam-
They don't talk about this because they can't. He becomes even more reclusive and marginal. Scully, more than likely overwhelmed by guilt and copes, as usual, by pretending she's fine while repenting by trying to save other people's children (no accident how she went very conspicuously from some kind of autopsy superhero to trying to save the living) I can easily imagine this pushing them into separate corners again and I so hope for some kind of satisfying conclusion, if they don't fk it up!
"What you couldn't do I will,
I'll forgive you..."
That line makes me want to weep,
Just like this msr swamp we've wandered into ;)
