Here's what I can see: Sakura was with a clan of Japanese warriors as a child. Here, she learned fight styles, how to handle weapons properly, and how not to be afraid. She grew up in the Canopy map, where fog and mist are abundant, useful for hidden strikes. The clan was also known for the Hitokiri, the executioners of the Samurai faction, where everytime they would capture warriors they would torture and interrogate them before killing them. In battle they use quick strikes, and heavy blows to defeat opponents, and their executions reflect this. Two of them are slow as to draw out their pain, and three of them are faster because they are simply done with you. Sakura and the other Hitokiri are ghosts, and they preferred to stay that way... until Apollyon came and attacked their lands. Now, they step from the fog, out of the mists, the Hitokiri are here from the Underworld, and they've come to drag you back...

Nope. Hitokiri are the Ex executioners who have been taken over by darkness and have become the spirits of death. Sakura was a executioners obsessed with death. One day she was sent to kill a criminal who was hiding in a village. But after she killed him she could hear the souls of the rest of the village calling for there blood to be spilled and she killed them all. Fully falling to the darkness and becoming a spirit of death. Yato the male Hitokiri you can play as is closer to your theory. He was the champion warrior in a clan of executioners who were trying to overthrow an oppressive warlord.
