My lap grinder has arrived and the hairy skirt for the modification. Thank you so much for doing a video for the set up etc. You always come through for me. Your advice is always valuable! In the video you used the 360 disc to smooth the edge. Have you used the higher grits and if so could you share their use. Thanks again for all your help!
@JamaisonSchuler Жыл бұрын
The higher the grit, the less material you are removing… so each progressively “polishes” a bit more. I haven’t used any of those yet, because I’m mostly interested in trying to straighten edges and takeoff more material and then I do a fire polish or another full fuse, depending on the piece.

Aw, thanks!!! Yes, I am thinking bending is a better solution. I may order brush and try again. Someone else reached out and said she was successful by bending each corner.

What if you bent the aluminum at each corner instead of cutting the pieces? Great idea, though, Thanks for your wonderful videos.
@JamaisonSchuler3 жыл бұрын
Indeed, in hindsight, I might have tried that. It was surprisingly hard to bend... it could work but not without a lot of effort. I may order another strip and try again.

Hi Jamaison. I have this same cabber. I have often tried to figure out how to do exactly what you did. I didn't know about door brush sweeps. I took my black plastic piece off to see if I could make that work, but on my cabber, the sides are 1/8th - 1/16th inch higher than the disc, so I wouldn't be able to side the piece of glass level across the disc surface. Is yours different?
@JamaisonSchuler3 жыл бұрын
Very interesting... my sides are pretty much parallel, I checked before buying the brush. Hmmmm....
@elsiehaynes5753 жыл бұрын
@@JamaisonSchuler I been wondering if I might could shim up the disc. It wouldn't take much.
@debbies45253 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it is dragging (motor) on the large piece. Is it?
@JamaisonSchuler3 жыл бұрын
No, I just forgot to turn it up to the higher RPM. It was on the lowest setting which I’m sure is meant for polishing.
@laurarami23 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this video. It will be helpful when my pieces get larger. I have yet to get started and am building my studio. What grit diamond disks would I need for beveling and also cleaning up edges of glass? Not sure if I need to buy the one that comes with all the different grits. I was thinking 260 and/or 325 and fire polish after. What are your thoughts? Which grits do you use most? Thank you :)
@JamaisonSchuler3 жыл бұрын
I use the 360# the most as my “everyday” grinding disc, as that removes a fair amount of material but not too rough and gives a good fire polish. I will experiment with the others as I get into doing more drop vessels and want a more polished rim, but I’m not there in my work yet. Sorry, I have zero experience with beveling to comment there, but I’m sure the company could be very helpful if you reach out to them when you’re ready.

Jamaison, why did you choose the slanted machine instead of the flat one? I am looking to purchase one and I want to get the right one for me and wanted to know why you choose the slanted one. Thanks for any info you can provide.
@JamaisonSchuler2 жыл бұрын
I have not seen the flat one in person, only the online photos. But I worried I would not be able to remove the black plastic guard on the flat one and still make it work? And I also was unsure how I would attach the brush. So the slanted one was the direction I went.
@winterwhitechocolate2 жыл бұрын
@@JamaisonSchuler Thank you. That helps me out. Do you have any problems grinding long edges flat, straight and even due to the grinder disk's angle?
@JamaisonSchuler2 жыл бұрын
@@winterwhitechocolate I could always use more practice with it. I haven’t tackled too many long pieces yet but the few I’ve done I’ve been pleased with. It’s never going to replicate a giant lap wheel so set your expectations accordingly. 😉
