Well I get it if the directors tried to make it realistic and a sad ending, which they succeeded in, and I think it tried to point out with a lil moral, saying how we can't trust even our closest friends, like I remember when the Platoon Leader said not to trust your friends around you, but the gun you're holding, as it can save your life, not them. Most decisions and conflicts were all a little dumb but I managed to get past it because the kids grew on me. What I can't accept is the terrible writing of the finale. They didn't even die because of the spheres and all could have been avoided if they stayed and waited like they are supposed to. Also, it is not fair to give us all that cute moments knowing that only 4 of them survived and the rest died unfairly not only by the hands of Yoon Soo but because of an incompetent government who thought military service for students is a good solution to an alien invation. The drama had a lot of potential but nah.

It's supposed to be emotional and I keep saying this, its reality. and saying it again, Platoon Leader said not to trust the friends next to you, but the gun you're holding. I mean the whole premise of the show is pure asinine. Instead of saving the kids, the future generation of the country they are forcing them to fight a war and the military is nowhere to be found. The whole reason for fighting a war just to get some CSAT points is so dumb, no parent in their right mind will send their kids to battlefield just for some extra marks in exams. That girl's character in the prison scene is so mindnumbingly stupid, that's just bad writing. Most of the students didn't have any character development whatsoever, little to no impact on the story...which made me forget about them so easily. It could have been good but the ending absolutely ruined it. Shock factor only works when the characters are well written, just randomly killing for the sake of shock value won't make it good.

He didn't kill them for that entirely. There is more into his character. It was shown from the beginning that he cared about the points more than anything. That and how he was treated by almost everyone plus Il Ha made, his mind messed up. When he kills him and sees so yeon? (I forgot her name) talking with the other guy, he thinks that his future is now ruined cuz he s3xually harassed her. That's why he killed them. This show was never about the aliens. It was about the people (adults), especially the ones in the government. How they don’t care about the youth and use them as bait.

Youngsoo cared about the extra points the govt promised, he was in denial about the CSAT's cancellation (maybe bcz he thought the extra points would be deducted). This is one of the things that brought him to his sanity switch. -He also cares about the CSAT because his family is poor, imo maybe he thinks he can't pay for another year at school or maybe his family had already paid for the CSAT for that year. Another reason is said in the comment above me, about how he didn't want to be seen as a creep. His mind is so messed up that his imagination got to the best of him, he didn't want to get bullied by his classmates over it. Other than that, I think killing the spheres has gotten into him, maybe he wasn't built to fight with guns. He sees himself as a murderer too, killing Ilha at the beach, and he's tormented by his own imagination of Ilha (to be fair Ilha is quite the bully) To answer the question, "world getting destroyed/how can anyone go to uni?" the guy at the end narrated that the military was able to craft a machine to defeat the spheres and that's all the information we got
