I like sitting my containers in a kiddie swimming pool. I put a hole about 3 inches up from the bottom for an overflow. Maybe a few rocks for decoration. But all I have to do is keep water mixed with a little fertilizer, 1 teaspoon per gallon, in the bottom of the pool. Seams to work pretty well.

I know this is contrary to your advice, but I successfully grew indeterminate tomatoes this year in 5 gallon buckets. Staking was a challenge but I figured it out. They’re over 7 feet tall and I’ve cut the growing tips at this point but I made it work. Also bell peppers, jalapeños, determinate tomatoes and herbs did excellent in those same buckets. Again the only real challenge was the staking. Had to get creative but it worked.

Hi Gary... Love the videos mate... keep them coming !! Quick question...I'm in New Zealand and I'm starting a container garden...my preferred soil mix is equal parts compost/ peat moss and top soil... with some perlite mixed in as well... my question is should I hydrate the peat moss 1st before adding with the compost/top soil?? will also add in blood n bone and lime fertilizer. Im also doing container potatoes so being acidic loving i could leave out the lime?? your thoughts please Keep up the awesome vids mate Cheers🙂

you mentioned about not skimping on container soil could you use a cheaper soil Instead of buying a more expensive potting soil for your containers and just add compost and fertilizer

Yep for sure. I make mine. The key is to just make sure you have the moisture retention in it. Compost counts. Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More.e roots but depends how careful you are.

Results are bad. Zucchini in grow box already dead, fruit rots when it is about 3" long. Now the plant is dying. The few zucchini I got were attacked by woodchucks!!! They were happy.
