Great idea with the closet panel from home depot! I will be doing that. I'm in the same zone you are, I think. I live in Toano/Williamsburg, VA area. Do you find that your cucumbers need shade in the heat of the summer? I was thinking about the cattle trellising for a plant in my raised bed, which is actually 3 feet off the ground. But this bed currently has no afternoon shade. Just curious. The last time I grew cucumbers we had late afternoon shade in that area.

Thank you for the wire shelf idea! I was just about to buy a cattle panel and cut it up for trellis, but since I saw this, I used old shelving that I rescued from a neighbor's trash. I had enough shelving to make make several. THANK YOU!

I discovered your channel last night. I must have watched 2-3 hours. I was interested in the soil mixture and how it compares to the big box garden soils. I used your ideas about how to blend red clay(Oklahoma) with potting soil and organic compost. I planted yellow squash and zucchini. In my home town the City mixes and high quality compost. It is tested by Oklahoma State University Ag Department before selling. A scoop(pickup load) cost $22.00.

I like using metal T bars and either using clothes line (cheap and sturdy, rust resistant, lasts forever) or cow fencing in between. T bars are awesome and of course, zip ties are MacGyver's best friend in the garden 😁 Build things to last years so you don't spend every spring building and fixing 👍 Your gardens are beautiful and the layout is so inspiring

Gary, those cinder block trellis’ could be secured a bit more with tying twine from the cinder blocks to the top ( backside) also if the plants get too heavy for extra support. Just an option. Garden looking good as usual. Great job. I never learn. I always grow them at once. Have to start practicing succession planting.

Yeah and that's why things are 'Seasonal' in the stores. Farmers trying to beat the cycles of pests and disease that can infect and kill their produce. Succession Planting does seem a good remedy because I've been trying to figure out how to INTERRUPT the lifecycle of certain pests and can find nothing. Good Vid!

Gary, I used your hydrogen peroxide and water spray as the tomatoes had a lot of leaf blight (particularly the Brandywine and Paul Robeson plants) we have had over 10 inches of rain this month. Worked like magic !.The blight is gone and new growth is perfect... just wondering if you can mix the aspirin with the peroxide to save on soaking the plants?

Hey Gary, I purchased your cucumber and tomato variety packs last year, and let me tell you, everything grew so beautifully. This year, I've started my seeds around the first of March. I am noticing that the seed leaves are turning light green. The true leaves seem to be ok. I think I've been over-watering them. Can I pinch off the seed leaves? There are only 1 maybe 2 true leaves on the seedlings. Please advise. Thanks so much!

Gary Pilarchik (The Rusted Garden) I know finally! But the humidity is pretty bad today. But at least I don’t have to water the garden with these little showers we keep getting.

Love how well your videos are organized and all the options you give your viewers. Really enjoy your videos Gary! I am trying something different with my cucumbers. Using Mel's metal conduit framework with 2 ft rebar stakes but isntead of putting up a trellis net, I am hanging string from the top. Going to use the tomato string clips to single stem the cucumbers. Similar to this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHerloCai9yab80 . I hope the vines hold up to the wind .. may have to secure the string at the bottom now that I think about it! Might have to go with the trellis net afterall.. hrm..

@@cindybonem494 thanks Cindy, but about the plants, it's a lot of work to prune them, I don't know how tall they'll grow and how to control them, I didn't anticipate this part, I think I'm just gonna let them do their thing and let them grow naturally
