Maybe it's just me--and I'm probably off by a long shot here--but I truly believe this number separated Avenue Q from Wicked, when it came to the Tonys. See, I performed in Les Mis and its finale, and there is such a subtle quality to this piece that blows that finale out of the water. I have lived by this song for close to ten years, and it's this number that truly reveals Avenue Q's heart; look beyond the show's crude humor and over-the-top nonsense, and this song is a gem.

7 years late to this comment but I agree. There are a handful of adult puppet parodies out there like The Happytime Murders that suck because the whole joke is that the puppet says a bad word. Avenue Q is so good, and beat out Wicked, because it keeps all the lovable things about Sesame Street. Its not funny because the puppets swear, its funny because the puppets are relatable. Its not just a crude parody because it has heart. The joke songs are funny of course, but songs like Purpose, I Wish I Could Go Back To College, and For Now are all deeply relatable while still having some silly lyrics. The show makes us care for the characters, and that adds an element of comedy you dont usually see in puppet parodies

The video is great, but my favorite part is seeing the swift handoffs of the puppets toward the end

The last for now is supposed to be either: George Bush, Fox News, or Trump. It's supposed to be anti-Republican. "This Show?" what a copout.
