@@smashmaster2000I mean it can be but it's can't be JUST an ad, in the original there is subtext that the students' "stories" don't have

The point of the example was that a baby had passed away. That's why the shoes were never worn. 6 words, but it makes you feel grief for a person you know nothing about. That's what makes it a story that happens to be in the format of an ad.

Studio C always makes me smile so much. Just knowing that there are still writers and actors out there that take pride in their work and they've been able to keep coming up with fun sketches after all these years. SNL needs to take a note because they used to have this kind of spirit.

The last time I was a teenager was over 45 years ago. But there is one thing I do remember. When my teachers would send me to the principal's office, I just went out to my car and listened to the radio for a while. The teachers never checked to see if I ever arrived. Not once!

Some of these were low-key actually good micro-fiction. The teacher was the one getting hung up on the ad format. Best one was "For sale: Baby Shoes. I kept myself alive." Super dark story and very meta in the space of microfiction.

Interesting, but I’m not sure how the two phrases tie together. Could you please elaborate?
@harmonicarchipelgo9351
@harmonicarchipelgo9351 2 ай бұрын
@@rosiebaybie6245 The implication is that in order to stay alive, the seller had to let their baby die. Even darker interpretations could be that they ate their baby or that they actively killed their baby is some high stakes scenario. The details are obviously vague since it is microfiction. The meta part comes from the fact that they combined text from 2 famous micro stories into one still micro sized story. Thus they managed with to pull off multiple instances of allusion in a genre that makes allusion extremely difficult and rare.

@@rosiebaybie6245 She planned the pregnancy. She was so excited when the test came back positive. The room was already painted; she'd bought sleepsacks and diapers and little tiny shoes. It hurts. They reassure her but she's paranoid and she returns to the doctor. They look. Ectopic. She keeps herself alive.

This feels like a jab at the education system. Lol It's exaggerated but true from my experience. It's hard to get a real feel for writing when you're either given too specific of an example that you tend to copy the structure superficially or not enough information to understand the core points and come up with something original. Whether this is poor teaching style or students not understanding fundamentals, I'm not sure though.
