So, I'm a Black woman who loves hanging out at the Met. One time I was in the classics wing describing the Roman Civil War which basically broke out like a season of Power ("So Pompey and Caesar were tight because they helped each other get rich and famous, but after Caesar's daughter, who was married to Pompey, died, the Senate was whispering in Pompey's ear 'fuck Caesar, be our guy..."). This old white guy made a face at me, so I asked him to do something about it or get out of my face. Everybody should get a Met membership. Free admission and early access to exhibits is good. Sitting in the member's lounge in sneakers and jeans and watching people who assume they're admitted everywhere get turned away is when the blessings come in.
