For me, it was the implication that no time passed for him. As soon as he saw her, the years of separation were gone, and they were simply one again. It's also amazing that he literally had no ill words for her, he was simply happy to see her again. Look at Hiccup's face during this song, it's filled with wonder as he listens to his parent's song. He doubtlessly knows the words as well as Gobber does, but it's like he's heard it for the first time.

I have a theory: What if Valka, after spending so much time with her dragons, had forgotten her wedding vows, after those twenty years of not being with her family. It would be an explanation to why she appeared so shocked to hear Stoick whistle the beginning, and how sad she seemed while he sang it. However, it's only after Stoick stops singing is when she begins to remember the wedding vows. Then, in pure happiness, she finally sings along with Stoick. It's a very sad theory, yes, but to me, it does make sense. Hopefully, nobody will start arguments in the comment section, rudely try to dismiss the theory because it's JUST a theory. Thank you for reading!

Music accesses the emotional centers of the human brain, which means that for old people with dementia, it can be used to access long-term memories despite deterioration of the hippocampus through that emotional center. In short, music gets around dementia by causing people to FEEL memories.

This song just radiates a kind of joy I’ve never felt in my entire life! It is pure magic and love! The strong words of Stoick and the soft voice of Valka just bring this song to life! And Gober interrupting is hilarious and celebrating adds that extra flare of joy to the song! This song makes me want to bounce around and dance along! This song is magic! Pure, unadulterated magic! Something not many people know: Back then, in such communities, there was only one way for a woman to divorce. Leave, and never return. After a certain amount of years had passed, if they met again the man had little to no claim over her. At this point, Stoick has thought her dead for almost 20 years. To find out she's still alive and chose to stay away must be incredibly painful. "Why did she choose this? Was I not a good husband? Did I not provide well enough for her? I thought we had been happy together.... And what of our son? Did she not want him?" Etc. You can see the despair in his eyes when she doesn't respond to his offer of song. He thinks that she has rejected him utterly, that she truly did not think them a good match, that their marriage was simply to keep appearances and appease the village. The joy and relief that lights his face when she finally responds.... He discovers his fears were unfounded, that she does love him, and she is willing to try again. And yet he still *asks*. "Will you be my wife once more?" I love the depth in this song. It can be a new beginning of the just married, or the re-affirmation of love between an old couple. The sweet whispering of a promise or the longing remembrance of one lost. Let the message of this song never fade, and tell the one you hold dear that you love them every day...

She kind of doesn't deserve him though. She left her family for the sake of dragons remember? CloudJumper took Valka away during the fire. She couldn't even be sure her husband and son would not get hurt in the fire. Did she ever come back to check are they alright? She cared about wild dragons she knew nothing about at that time more than her own family, letting Hiccup grow up without her. If a lover told you I left you so i can take care of some animals for thirty years, without you knowing am i alive or dead,y ou would be happy? It isnt excusable, and it a poor plot for a child-movie, like saying it isnt a big thing. It is unforgivable simply. imagine your mother left you so she could live take acre of abandoned dogs for 20years. you think it is forgivable? I wouldn't forgive it. well on Hiccup's place, i would probably not even forgive Toothless for killing Stoick. even if it wasn't intentional, seeing him alone would remind one on father's death. One needs to live with that. It does require a very strong heart to forgive such things. because Toothless didnt do it intentionally there is a chance of forgiving it, but valka willingly chose dragons over her family saying they are more important to me than my family. Unknown dragons. If you think about it, sounds like valka didnt even want or plan to have hiccup, that he just happened if she can simply abandon her baby like that for the sake of idealistic protection of different species. CloudJumper, a dragon who attacked her village was apparently more interesting to her than her baby being surrounded by fire. that is disturbing.

Okay so story time. I’m Scottish, so are my parents and lots of my family and for my parents wedding they had a song like this, it was so sweet the music was beautiful and the lyrics were their own wedding vows. I can remember seeing them dance around and I can practically see them dancing whenever I hear music like this, so when music like this comes on we all get teary eyes. Skip like 10 years in the future and I’m seeing this movie with my parents and all my wee siblings and this song comes on. My mum gasped really loudly and me and a few others turned to her and she was crying, tears just falling down her face and we were concerned, askin her if she was okay and she just smiled and started singing really quietly to herself her and my dads song. We all know the song, they sing it all the time, so naturally we all joined in few of the kids started dancing. It was so sweet and now this song is kinda like our family song? We sing it to each other sometimes if somebody’s down or after a nightmare or even when we’re happy and we all dance about

Every now and then u find a truly heartfelt moment. This one, for me, was perfect. Everything about it was perfect. The words, the emotions, the hesitance by Valka, Stoic accepting his fate and then the beautiful voice of Valka! The dance the chorus as if they have sung this so many times before! The timing of them doing this on their reunion. I can go on! I wish there was like a proper version of this without Gobbers interruption
@SCPguy

I feel like Gobber’s interruptions make it better, him and Stoic have been best friends for a long time, and him seeing his best friend, fall in love with Valka for the second time is probably one of the best moments of his life, him joining in makes it even more emotional, especially since barely 20 minutes later he has to watch him die, it’s only natural, if I were Gobber, I would have done the same thing

Gobber interrupting may be considered song ruining but I like it because it brings life to the song along with the laughs they make throughout the song. The melody and the lyrics are beautiful and memorable. This song really touches the heart and leaves an impact.

I believe realistic Valka's reaction to his dead, would be a wish to burn with him on his death boat. They loved eachother so much, even after how long they've been apart, that she would probably never be able to be happy again without him.

Their love is really a True love, love that no matter what, Will not be broken, He never moved on from her, Stoic would never, He loved Valka with his whole heart, but the words "You are as beautiful as the day I lost you" got most viewers crying, and I'm not suprised, because True Pure Love is the sweetest you can find

i disagree with you. This was organic. Really, this scene was beautiful. There are just a ton of Disney movies where the music isn't forced. Frozen and Descendents is too forced for my liking but classic Disney movies aren't forced and fit into the atmosphere. Well to me anyways

I think Lilo and Stitch has a very organic singing part in it. You know, the scene with Nani and Lilo singing in the hammock the before she has to be taken by social services. Some Disney movies do have organic singing scenes, and I totally agree that Disney needs to put that into practice more.

Eh, Disney does musicals, where folks bust out in song all over. This was more like reality, where song has special timing and place in the flow of the story. It's a style difference

Allow me to correct your lyrics. [Stoick] I'll swim and sail on savage seas With ne'er a fear of drowning And gladly ride the waves of life If you will marry me No scorching sun Nor freezing cold Will stop- [Gobber] Will stop me on my journey Sorry [Stoick] If you will promise me your heart And love [Valka] And love me for eternity My dearest one, my darling dear Your mighty words astound me But I've no need of mighty deeds When I feel your arms around me [Stoick] But I would bring you rings of gold I'd even sing you poetry ( Oh, would you?) And I would keep you from all harm If you would stay beside me [Valka] I have no use for rings of gold I care not for your poetry I only want your hand to hold [Stoick] I only want you near me [Stoick & Valka] To love, to kiss, to sweetly hold For the dancing and the dreaming Through all life's sorrows and delights I'll keep your laugh inside me I'll swim and sail on savage seas With ne'er a fear of drowning And gladly ride the waves of life If you will marry me [Gobber] Me-eee-e I'm still goin' I'm done
