As a government employee, it’s astounding how far off the rails spending goes. There’s nine kinds of red tape to get through that does nothing but hinder our ability to spend money wisely. For example, we’ve been waiting months for a machine that will ultimately end up being bought at some point it’s just a matter of when. The purchase order has been submitted and instead of it being bought in a timely manner, we’ve spent probably close to the value of a new machine on rent. The other crews have machines that “met required specs” but not really and they have been broke down more than they’ve been in service because some higher up that has no idea what they’re looking at just picked the cheapest one without actually going over the requested specs. It’s been the same case with those. They’ve spent as much on rent and repair bills as they would have on a top of the line machine. Incompetence is rampant in the government because the majority of its employees have spent their entire careers working in government and don’t know what a budget is. Let alone how to complete a project to any standard that would fly in the private sector. It’s sickening to see it on a daily basis.
