I hope politicians stop saying "we need to stop spending money we do not have" because it is not a logical statement. It is only a question of how people get control of money to spend. People with credit cards are not spending money they do not have. They have been given control of money by a company that they can borrow up to a certain limit. There are many Republican political leaders who lose their credibility on the topic of government efficiency, because they do not give any impression it applies to the Defense Department and military. To them, strengthening the military means only giving the Defense Department more money, making its budget larger. The budget for the military is already about 8 to 10 times larger than most other cabinet departments. The one thing the people in the American press and government need to do is acknowledge that a certain percentage of government spending has been coming from borrowed funds, and not taxpayer money. If one goes by the Erskine Bowles commission of 2011, all of the cabinet departments had their budgets paid from borrowed funds. I am one person who wants to know if the aide to Ukraine has actually come from borrowed funds, and not taxpayer dollars. I can remember sending an email to Senator Masto of Nevada about what the Erskine Bowles Commission said a decade after the fact. Masto replied to me in email that the debt ceiling in 2021 had to be raised or else Social Security recipients would not have been paid, and many government agencies would have had to shut down. I then sent an email to her asking what percentage of the expenses of the federal government were paid from tax receipts. I never got a reply. If the American people want the billionaires of the country to pay a higher tax rate to make themselves feel better, that can be done. I have been reading that the Internal Revenue Service will be given $60 billion to hire 80,000 additional agents over 10 years. The most recent two years so the IRS having gotten an increase of about $1 billion from the highest income bracket. That is not a good sign when looking at annual deficits of $1.8 trillion. Someone really needs to break down the calculations like designing a system. Don't you and others think every member of Congress should focus like a laser on the federal budget and how all of the government agencies are operating? All other hearings are a distraction compared to that, like hearings on the use of performance enhancing drugs, or gender pay inequality. Congress is not focused enough. Shouldn't the public put pressure on all those in Congress to not do any stock trading or book writing/selling until they pass a federal budget every year before the fiscal year is over? Notice that China has not risen in power relative to other countries by emphasizing the military. I guess they are doing it more now, but that was not the basis for their rise relative to other countries.

Will it actually make our Military more effective as a fighting force? Will raising the Medicare budget actually provide better and more efficient service for it's customers? We give plenty to Ukraine for their fight against Russia but does the average American understand that much of that money goes to social expenditures that have nothing to do with defending Ukraine.. Aside form the millions that go into the black hole of corruption that is Ukraine. Like you say they use hot button issue hearings to distract Americans from the real issues that they don't have the balls to actually address. The issues that need addressing could put their donors in a bad light and they wouldn't want that to happen. For myself I can only hope that this new administration loaded with outsiders can actually make a dent in the wasteful spending that our "representatives" continue to practice for their own benefit

There was a change in beliefs about tariff with respect to our 19th century American leaders compared to those after 1945. There was a change in beliefs about their net benefit. Nobody wants to talk about the reasons for this. America has had imports exceed exports since the 1970's. Macroeconomics shows that has a negative effect on national income. It subtracts from it. Are the exchange rate ratios with other countries around the world a big factor in creating a major disadvantage of businesses employing American workers being profitable in selling products to people of other countries? Can the American public get the president and the people in Congress to talk about this intensely, and address it?

We need to replace the current "sick care" with "well care". I am at the lowest level of prediabetes. I asked for help from a dietician so that I can avoid actual diabetes. My request was denied. I was told that I can get this care ONLY if I am insulin-dependent diabetic or in full blown kidney failure. How is this "health care"?

There's a wealth of good information out there about diabetic diet choices and why you need to watch fat intake along with carbohydrates. Start in your local library. Also a dietary consult by itself shouldn't be too costly. Maybe ask your county health department if they can refer someone. Type 2 diabetes is 100% manageable. My husband has been diabetic for 41 years without any complications. It's possible. Exercise is essential.

I can see it now, just like 401k plan that you work for to contribute to yourself to roll it over to IRA after you leave company. Likewise, there should be a health 401k plan that you contribute to while working, so when you leave company you can convert it to an HSA(health security account) to take it to next company, or add to it going into retirement.

They have been talking about the debt levels for decades now. Things have gone off the rails before they went off the gold standard, and the reason they went off the gold standard is because the debt levels were getting out of control back in the 1960s during Vietnam war. US defaulted on its debt when they severed the gold standard in 1971, ever since then, the dollar just collapsing at an ever increasing parabolic rate. And they sit here debating the debt level will not change what the government is going to do and that is print more and borrow more. Buy gold and Bitcoin as a form of savings, because the dollar is not a safe way to save money.

So nice that congressman Chip Roy care. With the land and resources we have, it is the out of balance structure that caused us in viscous cycle. Cutting cost is important; however, diversify our assets portfolio, and changing spending structure are equally important. Setting the rightful spending policy forward is equally important as cutting cost. For example, there should be limitations for free food stamps up to for example, three kids per family. Seriously, poor working class can’t afford to have more than three kids especially with two jobs. Unlimited free subsidies is unreasonable for taxpayers. We as hard working paying tax middle class are definitely not getting anything free at all. Social responsibility for disadvantaged families is important; however, there will prong toward system abuse without limitations.
