Almost 50 years ago when I was in the military, my first Commander was Latino. One of his top two subordinates was black. I later went to an advanced training course, where the top instructor was black. Nobody ever questioned their abilities or suggested they be promoted or rewarded SOLELY for their race or ethnicity.

I agree, but unfortunately the "SPEECH and DEBATE Clause" allows congress to lie to Americans which is unfortunate! That being said the 2017 pentagon survey seems to validate the discrimination that occurs in the military. It even makes mention that 40% of black people feared for their safety due to racism. Pretending racism doesn't exist isn't going to fix the military and hoping it will go away won't either.

I am a disabled veteran with 12 years active duty and six years army reserve. The story I relate it’s from my first tour of active duty in the 82nd ABN Div. My platoon consisted of 24 guys and 5 noncommissioned officers. To say we were a mixed bag of races is putting it mildly. White, Black, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Asian, and one Native American. I mention Singer (Navajo) because he was my best friend. We were a tight group. I don’t remember race ever becoming an issue. You see we had a very dangerous job. We jumped out of airplanes. We trained for combat. We did the kind of stuff that you needed to have somebody watching your back. We trusted and protected each other. We succeeded in that job. I guess that’s why Paratroopers are called a Band of Brothers.

I had two uncles that were cooks, one in WWII and one in the Korean War. They were both white and my dad served in the Air Force. Growing up my parents taught me to respect people of all different races and color. I served with people of different nationalities and color, we all got along without the governments help. I don't think that it is necessarily because they feel that they won't measure up, but rather, because of ideas like affirmative action and dei they don't have to strive to be their best selves. Perhaps, on a subconscious level, they know that that would require effort that they don't want to extend. The claim that affirmative action and dei "level the playing field" is just not so. Instead of helping them to better themselves, these ideas actually rob these people of their passion and drive to achieve success on their own. Laziness knows no skin color, ethnicity, or orientation, and most people, when given the choice, will choose the easy path instead of digging deep and pushing themselves to succeed on their own merits. Just like affirmative action, we need to get rid of dei, they do nothing but breed laziness and entitlement.

When I was in the Army, I clearly remember being quarterly briefed on the DOD policies, which ensured no one's race(physical characteristics), ethnicity, religious affiliations, creed, should be held against the individual. DEI violates the DOD policies that ensure everyone should be treated equally. Promoting individuals for diversity quota, not by merits, creates division in a unit. DEI needs to be removed out of the DOD.

The classic PowerPoint to death service members in how their "unconscious biases" makes themself rascist. Meanwhile, the policies and practices of the ideology of CRT, the bases of DEI, is in fact rascist . When you subdivide individuals for ideological reasons based on physical characteristics, by definition, that is racism. When soldiers say they are being passed over by individuals who do not meet the military standards, that creates division in a unit. The adverse effect a Soldier/ Airmen/Marine chooses to leave the Armed Services because of they are being held back for unjust reasons. Even those choosing to retire, speak in private about policies that they do not agree about but been forced to support or they to would be removed from their postions. It is one major reason I am glad I was retired in 2008, as Commands started focusing on identity politics.

I was in the Army for 22 years, and I retired in March 2022. With this being said, I believe it gives me the unique experience to speak on this matter. I want to start off by saying I believe Republicans and Democrats are both the same and different in name only. I have seen what bringing race,gender, and sexual orientation does to the Army, and it is nothing good. I have seen Soldiers disrespect leadership because they didn't want to do things, and when told to fall in with everyone else, they screamed racism, sexism, or homeopathic. Without any proof on the matter, investigations start and all because an entitled Soldier felt they shouldn't be out in the field or doing range cleanup or even missions that are too much like work. I have seen female Soldiers show up to formation looking like they are more fit to go to a nightclub rather than doing their job, and rightfully so the immediate leadership is afraid to say anything about it because they don't want to go through the embarrassment of an investigation. The Army has always been about you are not a woman, man, white, black, gay, or straight you were a Soldier. That Army has been pushed aside for an Army of individualism and fear when enforcing rules and regulations. I retired at 42 years old and with 22 years in because the new Army is a dangerous Army both in garrison and deployment, not from enemies foreign or domestic but from Soldiers who believe they are individual's, entitled, and special. I wouldn't have wanted to deploy with 60% of Soldiers today, and for that reason, I retired.

Why do they keep bringing up what happened to their people from 5o to 60 years ago. It isn't happening now. They are the ones causing the division by bringing up what happened many years ago. Like the one woman said, when her husband needed someone to take care of them, they don't care what color, race or anything you are. I get sick of hearing this equity stuff

The racism did not come from my Fellow Soldiers. We were All like Brothers; the racism came from the Officer Ranks of the Military e.g; Captain Darwin Dudley Simcoe who was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel for his efforts to eliminate Black Men. Living in grandpa and grandma's past , learn off it if you can , and maybe it won't happen again, It has nothing to do with race , your either a good or bad person , takes five minutes to talk and look in someone's eyes, color is nothing to me, you had bad parents that disrespected there own color and everybody else, then good chance your gona be bad😢 also I'm 65 year old white fellow, worked with my grandfather's workers in garbage trucks who were mostly black, they were all like brothers to me, made same pay as them

People genuinely think that DEI is inherently a good thing because it masquerades as a form of tolerance building and the people who champion it claim its going to rectify all the problems of the past. The problem with DEI training, however, is that it operates under the mechanisms of intersectional theory, which, if you follow through to its logical conclusion, encourages self segregation based on specific identity types, has a tendency to prioritize a specific part of an individual's identity (gender, sexuality, race, disability, etc) above a persons unique lived experience (i,e. upbringing, environment, temperance) and most disturbingly flattens entire groups of people based on race and organizes them into an oppression/privilege matrix. This matrix encourages the view that people who are marginalized (usually African Americans) have two options as an oppressed class of people: You can either accept that your racial heritage is constantly an affront to your country which is rooted in white supremacy ("original sin" ) and be constantly aware of the power dynamics between the privileged (white people) and the dispossessed marginalized (black people), I,e, wokeness, or, you can be a tool for white supremacy and a race trader for not relinquishing your entire being as an individual to the cause. As for white people, which according to intersectionality are the most privileged and capable of "punching down", their are two primary roles: Be a submissive ally which speaks when spoken to, constantly admit your privilege and the harm you do intentionally or unintentionally, even if you haven't done anything explicitly racist, because of western imperialism, because of the racism of the past being perpetrated by people who have your skin color, you are still to blame and the very nature of individuality is itself white supremacy, or, become our natural enemy. I do not consider myself to be a Democrat or Republican, or fully conservative or far left. All I can say is that Identity politics is not the way to go when dealing with racial issues. It just seems to exacerbate the problem 100 times more. I don't exactly know what the solution to racial bigotry is, but a scorched earth approach to racism does not seem to work unfortunately.
