The point missed is there are no other methods of insurance. The industry doesn't provide it without a government program. So while it's ridiculous that a mutlimillionaire gets an insurance plan backed by the government, it's also the same program that helps people like those in N Carolina...because there is no legislative plan otherwise except that which is coming in the next congressional session.

When i heard Pauls arguments i was completely with him. Then when i heard Kennedys i was like damn you have a great point.i went look up homes in LA and i saw some horrrible houses for a million. Houses that was probably passed down and just went up with the market. I think Paul and Kennedy should meet in the middle and raise the drop the limit to around 10 or 20 million

There is nothing “poetic “ about this. You should listen/watch full exchange. Rand Paul was trying to get people with homes over 500k and or second/vacation homes eliminated from cheap government flood insurance, Kennedy refused(he could have passed the bill) then Rand offered homes over 2million and 2nd/vacation homes, Kennedy still refused to pass the bill! At this point I have absolutely no respect for Kennedy, it’s extremely evident he cares way more for his rich friends/buddies than the everyday working class that is struggling to pay their premiums for flood insurance but because of the guidelines in place now, our tax dollars go to subsidize government flood insurance that the rich take advantage of on a regular basis.

Kennedy is correct about two things. 1) they aren't given insurance, they buy insurance and only part of the rate is subsidized. This is because the insurance industry refuses to offer flood insurance to anyone without it. There is no "non subsidized" plans, so there really isn't any other options. 2) there are people who are legacy owners where the values of their homes increased over $500k or even over $1million who bought their homes much cheaper but are now caught up in rising home values. Paul also makes a good point about people with 2nd homes or those who are multimillionaires. In the end I would have to agree with Kennedy that the plan continue even with it's flaws until congress and the senate can address the gaps in the next session, which IS actually on the agenda with legislation already being proposed. I believe this is where Paul and Kennedy can actually find the common ground. People forget the legislative process is supposed to work this way.

Id say if your house is worth more than 200,000 you can afford your own insurance. If you can't, buy a smaller home. If you cant afford flood insurance, stop building on the coast line were everyone wishes they still had access to camp or swimp without having to drive 50 miles only to pay. Better yet make it illegal to build residential homes on the coast so everyone has access once again. I guarantee people will be happier to enjoy a wilderness coast including the animals who are no longer living, because they got hit trying to get to their favorite drinking hole. Or just stopped living of thirst.
