This ship/AU/story is based on actual Greek mythology. Hades, or in this case, Sans steals Persephone (Frisk) and takes her to the underworld, where she eventually agrees to marry him on the condition that she can return to the surface for half the year. As Persephone is the goddess of life, this causes the seasons, Spring and Summer being the seasons where she’s on the surface and Autumn and Winter being the seasons she stays with her husband in the underworld. The Greeks created this story to explain the changing of the seasons and thousands of years later, it’s being reused as a form of fan art of a pixel game. Pretty cool, huh?
