Force and Power Required to Move a Plate Over a Fixed Plate
In this problem, we need to find the force and power required to maintain a specific velocity of a moving plate over a fixed plate. The moving plate has a size of 100 mm × 100 mm and is pulled with a velocity of 0.05 m/s. The distance between the plates is 0.25 mm, and the fluid between the plates has a dynamic viscosity (µ) of 1 poise.
Dynamic viscosity is a measure of a fluid's resistance to flow. The force required to maintain the velocity is directly related to the viscosity, the velocity of the plate, and the distance between the plates. The power required is a product of the force and the velocity.
