hello , i was having same doubt about it so i reffered R K BANSAL'S book it states 'In this case the mass of water coming out from the nozzle per second is always in contact with the plates, when all the plates are considered. Hence mass of water per second striking the series of plates paV.'

brother then ,V1 should be V as well na? this is so confusingg

For the flat vertical plat moving in direction of jet, we have taken F proportional to (V-u)(V-u). How it is different in case of moving vanes, jet is always in contact with moving vertical plate also? In comparison here we have taken V(V-u) which is not clear.

Sir what is the difference in this case and moving plate??

In moving plate...the plate was moving before it was hit by jet. That initial velocity was u. But in vanes, initial velocity is zero. They start moving with velocity u only after being hit by the jet

Why we take mass flow rate striking vane is v it should be v-u as sir taken v-u in a video in which vertical plate is moving

why final velocity is zero??
@adhithasimhanraghavan75164 жыл бұрын
After striking the blade, the water is assumed to lose all its kinetic energy to the blade. So a water jet with zero kinetic energy will have zero final velocity.

final velocity is zero because; we are considering force in x direction(i.e; the direction of flow of jet) ,hence for force in x direction we need change in momentum in x direction and thus change in momentum in x direction means change in velocity in x direction.So initial velocity is IN X direction but after striking the plate the water goes on and off of the plate, which is the Y direction..therefore we take final velocity in "X - direction" equal to zero.

It’s power not work done
@randomguy-zb4tl5 жыл бұрын
He said work done per second...which means power

Both are same in this topic

i m not justified with final velocity to be 0.it should be like initial mom. mv-final momentum mu.then it will come m(v-u)& now multiply with mass flow rate which is mv and it will give force in x direction that is pav(v-u).
