Force Feedback Sensitivity Setting in Gran Turismo 7 - Does it do Anything? In this video I am trying to figure out what the Force Feedback Steering Sensitivity setting actual does in GT7. I'm using a Thrustmaster T-GT II wheel to run these tests. We'll mess with the settings and see if we can notice any chance in the force feedback at all. I'm looking to see how I can get any more of the nuances in the wheel on the streets straights. According to GT7, the steering sensitivity is supposed to effect the straights so we'll see!

Thank you for mentioning my channel and linking my video in your description, that’s highly appreciated since many people would just use the info as if it’s theirs. I know you didn’t even use it in your video but still thank you. I also appreciate your honest approach, when you state that you’re just testing and describing what you’re feeling from the settings. By the way, make sure you put the wheel in the GT mode, when playing Gran Turismo and in the Other mode for other games. It makes a lot of difference. I would like to further describe the difference between 1 and 10 for the force feedback sensitivity from my own experience. At 10 it feels like your steering wheel is directly connected to your steering column. At 1 it feels like there is some sort of elastic coupling between the two. It feels like the elasticity of this coupling increases when you decrease the ffb sensitivity until you hit maximum elasticity at 1. This is felt by an added delay to the force created by the caster effect of the suspension, which is the force that wants to return your wheel back to the center. It’s very hard to detect this difference when just driving normally. While drifting it gets much more obvious especially when doing quick adjustments to the steering input. At 10 it feels like the steering wheel is always rigidly connected to the front wheels when doing these adjustments, at 1 it feels like there is a delay before the front wheels follow your command, at least in terms of force feedback. To be able to feel this difference you can do 2 tests: First you can drive in a straight line and slightly move the steering wheel left and right around the center but quickly. At 1 it will feel more dead around the center. At 10 you will feel that the ffb will start to build up much closer to the center. In other words, at 1 you need to move the wheel much further away from the center to start to feel something compared to 10 where it’s much closer to the center position of the wheel. Now this also changes when you change the controller steering sensitivity, but it has to do with how much your inputs are amplified or reduced. It’s only 1:1 at 5 CSS and I’ve described that in more detail in my video which you have linked: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXbIZo2ZndaVg8k This is also why other people experience oscillations of the steering wheel around its center while going in a straight line if they increase the ffb sensitivity to 10. Because they set the controller steering sensitivity higher than 5. You didn’t experience that in your video because you initially set your CSS to 5. The second test would be to intentionally make the car understeer by overturning the steering wheel. Usually when steering further towards the direction of the turn you feel an increasing force which wants to bring the steering wheel back to the initial position because of the caster effect. That force will increase the further you move the steering wheel away until you hit a point where the front tires are at the edge of grip. At that point the force feedback is at max (relative to this situation), and if you move the steering wheel further away, you will break the traction at the front tires, and the force will drop suddenly, making the steering wheel feel lighter and easier to move around. This effect was significantly improved after update 1.31 and the changes in physics, and I made a video especially about that which you can check out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3TTqWibet14ebs That point where the tires are at the edge of grip is always very accurately and consistently felt with the ffb sensitivity at 10, no matter how fast you move the steering wheel. Whereas if you set the ffb sensitivity to 1 it gets very inconsistent and misleading because of that added “elasticity” and it gets highly dependent on how fast you move the steering wheel. Because of that you can get into understeering way long before you can even feel it. Of course when moving the steering wheel very slowly it’s not gonna make a noticeable difference. But it’s when things get intense during a race or when drifting that it gets very significant. I hope this info helps you more or anyone reading it. And thank you again, you just made me type a new script for maybe a part 2 video lol Peace buddy 🤟🏻🤟🏻

I have a t300. I have my torque set between 3-4 for overall force feedback strength. On the force feedback sensitivity I find it doesn’t strengthen the feed back, but dampens it. So for example at a setting of 1 it seems more jarring and at a setting of 10 the input is the same but dampened. I may need to explain better. Setting of 1 and the input feels like wagon wheels and at setting of 10 it feels like soft rubber wheels. I have my sensitivity setting generally around 5-6. It just seems to feel more realistic. Hope this helps

I have a Logitech G pro wheel. This wheel will bug out when you make adjustments in game. The force feedback dies suddenly. I find that making wheel adjustments and restarting the game fixes this. Any in game adjustments reverts you back to a limp wheel. I’ve heard from others reporting similar bugs with their wheels. Seems to be a GT7 issue. This doesn’t occur with IRacing, ACC, or AB2

Im a beginner here... but, did do some experimenting... feels to me like tracks are pretty smooth, so you don't really get a feeling of bumps. excluding rumble strips, Im mainly feel 'tyre loading' in the wheel - torque gives me the max loading. more sensitivity seems to make the load more exaggerated quickly... this is good and bad.. higher gives you more feedback BUT once the cars 'breaks', it can oscillate as you counter steer... less sensitivity, means you less feel of the loading BUT when car breaks, its easier to countersteer. so... overall I found in just driving around track you won't really notice it, rather its when it tyres start to break. I only really noticed recently, as Ive been trying to drive with TCS off, where feel of the tyres is much more important, and break more frequently. as far where it should be, Ive found for road cars, I want it higher (e.g 5) , but the more power/more grip ... the lower I want it 2 or 3, otherwise I just cannot correct it when tyres go.. wheel just rips out of my hand :) (so ,I think technically, sensitivity is a curve, 1= linear, 10 = more fb, quicker) note: using a G923, and Ive turn down the torque to around 7 (iirc), as 10 was too much for general corner loading... perhaps more realistic, but pretty tiring for gaming.

Hmmm. I feel like the way the game states it, the setting should only effect the straights with the sensitivity setting and how things are felt but I wouldn't take that as the timing should be any different. Gonna let you know, that unless you are driving on a track with tire wear on then you won't feel the force feedback sensitivity. The force feedback sensitivity measures the way the wheel reacts to degrading tires. If there is no tire wear then there is no difference in sensation of the tires. People online say to keep the sensitivity low because you don't want to feel the wheel moving in an online race because it will feel like you are fighting the wheel. While it is more realistic to have this sensation of fighting the wheel, it does make you slower since you will be make micro turns to compensate for random wheel movements.
@thecasualracinggamer
@thecasualracinggamer Жыл бұрын
Interesting and thanks for the comment. Shouldn't you still notice somwwhat of a difference between 1 and 10 even on new tires if you are basically shutting sensitivity off at 1 and setting it as high as it goes on 10. And if it's really subtle between the two, then does all the numbers in between really matter.
@corey_massey
@corey_massey Жыл бұрын
@@thecasualracinggamer No you wouldn't have any change in sensation at all between 1 and 10 because without the tire wear model the game plays very much like an arcade racer, which is why so many people argue that GT7 is an arcade game because it is not always simulating racing conditions. For example, if you notice the early races in the campaign menu books don't have any tire wear on and the sensitivity on the wheel is not a factor, but if you go into a track and put the sensitivity up to 10 and turn on the tire wear you will feel the wheel wobbling alot (like alot) and as your tires degrade especially if you are wearing one side more than the other the car will start to drift in that direction. With the sensitivity on 1, the effects of tire wear will be there but you won't have the sensation of a wobbly wheel. If you are on a track with no tire wear at all, it doesn't matter what you have the sensitivity set for you will only feel the road in a turn. Personally I race with the sensitivity set to about 2-4. I use the Fanatec DD pro 5nm version and the wheel shake is intense on most straights anywhere beyond 5. And because the Direct Drive wheels are so strong it legit feels like i am wrestling the wheel when my tires are gassed. Not a pleasant experience in a multiplayer race. Fun if you are doing a private lobby/race in VR because then everything feels as close to authentic as it can possibly be (i've done several Richard Petty race experiences where they take you out on a track with a professional driver) but in an online multiplayer video game race, it is definitely slower than having it set low.

you'v turned one of the main settings off on the tgt that it was designed to be used with and designed for gt, the t-dfb/vibration settings are for the transducers, so of course your going to have no feeling whatsoever when that is set to 0, try turning that back up to the max and do the tests again and i guarantee your results will be completely different and the changes of the settings you were changing in this vid will have a bigger effect whether for better or worse in your own personal preference, gt7 doesn't have the best ffb unfortunately, but still with a wheel designed to be used in conjunction with the t-dfb (depth force feedback) setting it to 0 is going to impact the rest of the settings you were looking for, and made in this vid, i don't know why but it does, i'v had both the tgt and got the 2 and putting it on 0 makes the wheel feel dead, try the vibration setting on max and get those transducers working and do these tests again and your results will be totally different 👍👍 you'v also got tcs on, on a gr4 car, that could be impacting the tests, turn the tcs off too, it's a gr4 and your using very stable car with tcs 🙃🙃

If I recall I turned it off in this video to test the feedback without the transducer to just get a feel for force feedback. Of course I have it on though regularly and usually run it between 100 and 125.
@Gizmo_13
@Gizmo_13 11 ай бұрын
Yeah that's the one, the setting you turned off for the video was the transducers, i think it has a greater impact on the two settings with it set to 0, on my tgt 2 if i have the torque set to 10 i need hulk like arms just to turn the wheel and on 1 i can use 1 finger to turn the wheel, and defo with the sensitivity at 10 i can feel every bump, most kerb rumbles that gt7 give ffb cos not all do, get oscillation when wheel is straight more than in the video and can feel the dips in the road ect,,,,, since the last update i run mine at 4/10 with the vibration which is the transducers at max, it may just be my wheel but if i run my tgt 2 at 0 vibration for the transducers everything just feels very weak and numb but at max everything is awesome, that gt7 allows of course cos it's defo not the best game for ffb, even on other wheels people complain with the lack of detail, it's a shame, great game but pd need to sort it out, one main thing being the ffb, especially going over rumble strips feeling like they are smooth as ice no matter what wheel or ffb settings are used. could just be me, but i do think the transducers have a greater effect on the overall torque and especially the sensitivity settings, it's like all 3 settings all work in sync with one another, glad to hear you have turned it back on and not running what would feel like a dead wheel, i don't use any assists other than abs no matter what car so maybe the tcs could be dumbing down those settings you tried? i don't think it would but it may be a possibility with that car and track combo and tcs 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂ @@thecasualracinggamer

There is no way 10 FFB sensitivity is more realistic. When you drive a real car the wheel does not shake about when drive in a straight line.

Oscillation is mostly caused clipping. Most esports drivers use extremely high feedback. This IS realistic. There are several professional drivers who stream and drive at 17mm torque. They mimic their real GT3 cars. I have GT7 at max feedback and I think it’s still too low. My wheel doesn’t shake. Having a shitty low end, low feedback wheel will cause clipping which leads to wheel oscillation.

10 FFB sens doesn’t cause the wheel to shake. And yes it is more realistic. 10 gives more detail and you can feel the understeer.

GT7 ffb on g29 is even worse. For dirt tracks ffb is ok but all the rest despite any setting changes it feels almost numb to Very little rumble. In other ps5 racing games which is less realistic like nfs feels a lot better…. Weird.

Sometimes moving down can be a good thing too because you might get put with other drivers closer to your skill level. I would rather be middle, front of pack with equal skilled drivers then back of pack with drivers way better then me.

I think you’re just finding the limitations of Gran Turismo which is more arcade than simulator. I once thought GT was the business until I tried the original Assetto Corsa on PC. The difference is night and day and you can really feel the road surface, grip, tyre flex, curbs and even the way the tyres skip across the tarmac if you take a curb too aggressively. I went back to GT7 for VR a few weeks back and it is just ridiculous how unrealistic it feels and lame the feedback is. If you want to experience the most realistic force feedback from your new wheel try AC on PC.
