FORCE methods and DISPLACEMENT methods for analysis of Indeterminate Structures

Indeterminate structures can not be analyzed using equations of equilibrium alone. Hence special methods are required to analyze these structures. There are several methods available for the analysis of indeterminate structures. All these methods can be grouped into two categories depending on the selection of primary unknowns (i.e. force and displacement).

Respected mam, I have greate confusion between two questions 1. List various methods to calculate deflection of beam 2. List various methods to analyse indeterminate structures.

Second question is normally referred to calculation of bending moment and shear force to draw BMD and SFD.

I found googling that 2nd theorem of castigliano method belongs to force method and 1st theorem of castigliano belongs to displacement method. Can you clearify on that ma'am ?

In 1st theorem we take partial derivative of total strain energy with respect to displacement which gives force In second theorem we take partial derivative of total strain energy with respect to force which gives displacement. As per my experience, In many books and also in many online videos this is not mentioned correctly and hence students get confused. I hope this will help you to understand.

My confusion is, if we have to differentiate these two theorems, does both of these fall into 'force method' ? Or they belong to different category ? Thanks again for the response respected Ma'am . 🙏
