First the right approach is needed. For the olympiads a first principle approach is appreciated. Go through all derivations and know the assumptions made in derivations. Assumptions used are to simplify the mathematical complexity. Now , go one step further and make assumptions more realistic. And see whether you can solve it or not. For example we talk projectile motion without air resistance now think of a projectile motion with air resistance. For JEE, focus greatly on problem solving. Solve any good coaching module and then solve Irodov, Krotov, Pathfinder , 200 puzzling physics problems.
