Since reviewing this tent after many days of use over a year. I would say i do love this tent. I would say this tent is great for Summer hiking in the UK. The inner cord is tension cords for wind. I found it to handle 30mph gusts fine but anything over that your going need a well sheltered area. The tent is very light i did take it on the Welsh Cambrian way mountain hike across Wales at the start of Spring i hit few spring strong wind storms which the tent had hard time with lucky found some wind shelter and then it was fine. So as i said is fine for a summer 1 season tent unless you going use it in a sheltered area then should be fine in Spring and Autumn and always check wind forecast if in the mountains with it. The tent handles the rain very well. The tent wears well for such a light tent. I will be trying doing the Cambrian way again in Summer this time and i will use this tent.

Got the helium ul 1 2 months ago and what I learnt was that u peg out the inner first as tight as possible then attach the outer cords to the pegs then tension them, that way the inner and outer will be nice and taught. Great tent!

I got one a week ago, with the footprint. It's easier if you keep the footprint, inner & outer all together. Goes up easier, and comes down easier. Pitched on top at the weekend, 1800ft. Gentle breeze that turned into a windy night... Tent was fine and in the morning, no movement, but second using the tensioning system.

It flaps about because you haven't put it up right. There were a set of instructions with mine UL2 attached to the main bag, they are also available on the Vango website. As others have pointed out the cords are the tension band system. They make a huge difference in the wind. People have had these tents up the mountains in Scotland in light snow; I'm not saying it is a 4 season tent but a very good 3 season lightweight tent. The main bag is better with the straps fastened diagonally. I don't think you should call it a review if you haven't read the instruction or used it. It is more like a first look. Thanks for taking a look though.

I've been using this tent for the last two weeks in Ireland and Scotland. I've followed the directions and I just can't seem to get it tensioned right - I spent a night on Rannoch Moor and it was so windy the walls flapped all night and even kept hitting me. I've got all the lines tensioned as tight as they can go but the inner sags quite a bit. Any recommendations on how to fix the issue?

If you are going to review a product at least do the viewers and the tent manufacturer the courtesy of knowing what you are talking about. Those cords in the tent are not 'for hanging things from' but are in fact the tension band system, a sort of internal bracing for the tent. When you were reduced to walking around the outside of the tent pointing out 'that's a piece of Velcro just there and that's a peg' I almost lost the will to live.

Also, at the start, the tag itself explains the difference between pack weight and trail weight i.e. less the bag. Thanks for the review though!

I have the two man version of this tent and absolutely love it. It doesn’t get anywhere near enough recognition as one of the best backpacking tents out there. Bombproof 3 season lightweight tent for backpacking and, in my case, cycle touring. Lovely airy inner and quality materials, superb 👍🏻

I am considering purchasing this tent but what is holding me back is the 15D fly and inner weight of nylon which must make it more fragile to the wind, ripping, and abrasion than if it were 30D nylon. Please may I ask how yours is wearing and have yiu had it in stronger winds such as gale force say 40mph? Thank you for any help.

Thanks for the review. Contrary to what most comments say it's actually good to see it being put up first time in strong winds. A good test for the tent's ability/difficulties. Guess I press the buy button :-). Used a Wild Country (Terra Nova) Coshee Micro so far, mostly in the Austrian Alps. It is a good bivi tent that made it through heavy rain (once up around 2800m raining all night), keeping me happy and dry. It is a good tent that does the job it's designed for perfectly. But at an overall height of 63cm one really can't sit in it. Now I hike more and having had a severe operation recently (larynx removed, bit of throat cancer for the fun of it) I look for something more comfy. The Vango is 0.2kg lighter and offers far more height, that's very attractive.

@@justmyopiniontoday7548 Holaaaa and thank you. Used the F10 twice in the high alps of Austria and it does it's job perfectly. Yeah, massive surgery and then hiking is kind of fun. It really helps to recover. I bought a season ticket for the "Hochalpenstraße" in Austria. So I was on my motorbike frequently, making it up to 2500m and taking it from there. 3 times without tent, as it was a wonderful warm summer here. But in the end it is getting cold up there - Austria is a cold country. And the recent hikes meant I was sleeping next to a glacier. It is so much warmer in a tent 🙂

@@walterdewald267 I was in Austria in 1996 for 3 weeks but just did the tourist history and culture thing in Salzburg and Vienna. Completely ignored Austrias extraordinary alpine experience. Here in Scotland we hill climbers are very proud of the beauty of the Scottish Munros and the heather vegetation but Austria offers the full alpine experience of ragged peaks

Might have been better to put up the tent in your garden or local park FIRST before attempting to put it up for the first time in a strong wind. When you showed the inside of the tent it didn't look as if it was properly erected (the ground sheet looked all over the place). Sorry, but I think it's possibly a better tent than your review suggests.

Hi WhoDaresWalks, consider the F10 Helium UL2 at 1.4Kg as well or even the zenith 200 at 2Kg and half the price - much more room for all your gear. I have the UL 2 and with the tensioners on the flysheet and the tension band system (the strings inside) have found it ok in the wind so far .

Very difficult to believe Vango would brand this tent F10 without it being able to at least stand at least say a 50mph wind. These tents are known for being flappy, but that definitely doesn’t indicate it cannot stand a high wind. The looseness of the fabric under slow winds would change to a constant strain under high winds. It’s then up to the topology and pole strength to keep the tent stable under such conditions.

This is in Darmoor where wild camping is permitted in some areas. No such law in The UK. In Scotland in gernal in remote areas wild camping is permitted with some rules. In England and Wales its tot always possible to ask permisson. Last thing you want do at night is going around knocking on doors trying to find who the land owner is. You can camp on land so long as you move on when told to do so in genral.
