Comparing the two simulators like you did here with all settings as similar as possible, I thought we had hoped for MSFS2024 to outperform MSFS2020 easily with the improved core technology under the hood. This is consistent with my observation that I've lost ~10 FPS overall moving from 2020's DX11 to 2024's DX12. HOWEVER, so far I'm not missing anything because in my (purely subjective) view, I'm getting the same SMOOTHNESS (or even more, because less stutters) at ~30 FPS in 2024 that required at least 40 FPS in 2020 to achieve. So I'm quite happy with 2024 as long as I don't get too obsessed with the numbers Lol ETA: Not sure how much of this is due to the sim itself, or the latest DLSS DLL update.

I completely agree with this. I had a fly this morning and with the settings i had it was running at times at 30 fps and even dipped once or twice to 28, but it was still so much smoother than FS2020 when it ran at that frame rate. i always found anything under 40 in 2020 got a bit like a slide show, but at 28-30fps 2024 was so smooth.

Always look forward to your videos. Can't wait for your graphic setting optimization video! As a VR VFR and Vatsim pilot with almost 2000 hours on the G1000, I run TAA and override the resolution in OpenXR to make all my buttons legible. I do this at the expense of narrowing my FOV and some strategic foveated rendering. After two days of tweaking settings and trying to squeeze the most out of my hardware, I'm barely getting half of the FPS I was getting in 2020 and I'm not able to hit that magic number of half o my headset's refresh rate. Part of me hopes this is just an optimization issue but it's probably just my hardware... I tried Virtual Desktop and Link Cable....The VR performance is just not good. On the positive side, the knobs seem to be easier to twist using oculus touch controller and it might be viable to use instead of Knobster and KnobFS which is my preferred method currently.

DLSS must be used in DLAA or Quality once you touch the value to 0.90 in DLSS TWEAKS. it's pointless to use DLSS in balance. You're rendering at 2500ish by 2900ish.. which is pretty low resolution. Thanks for the informative video. Unfortunately with VR in 2024 I get 3fps, then the game freezes. I can get 20fps in low end mode which then looks far worse than 2020. I get 45 fps in 2020. I have a 4080 and Pimax Crystal Light. Am I alone with this?
@paulsaunders65367 күн бұрын
Generally, this doesn’t bode well. I’m glad I opted not to buy immediately. Based on the feedback on this and other forums I can’t see me buying FS2024 for quite some time. Took me an inordinate amount of time to get a decent frame rate and an acceptable sharpness in 2020, even with a 4090 and a 14900k processor. If all I can look forward to is 20-25 FPS in 2024 then it’s a no from me, unless there is a massive improvement over the coming months. Photogrammetry for buildings was and remains a post apocalyptic meltdown in the cities I fly over, even with 400mbps (the best I can get on my wifi) loading everything via wifi would be asking for even more trouble. I can see I’d probably need to hardwire my PC to my router and even then that’s only going to solve things at my end, there’s the other end to consider and Ive no control over that. Nah, I’ll pass for now.

While I'm sure they can continue to optimize, and the DX issue is intriguing, I don't know why our GPU's wouldn't struggle more with a sim that has higher graphical fidelity. I'm no expert, but isn't the quality higher so the gpu will just struggle more?

Main thread limit is still an issue in MSFS2024. Its such a shame. Prevents higher end GPUs from running at their full potential (100%+) because the CPU bottleneck is essentially throttling the capability of the GPU. Their multithread optimization is not great. MSFS 2024, despite all its upgrades, should be running far better than MSFS2020 in DX11. I'm hoping they will improve optimization over time, the servers will get better, and they will iron out the countless bugs that I've seen already. However, based on how long it took them to implement improvements for MSFS2020, I imagine this will take a while. It may also be helpful to include your PC specs in a pinned comment, so people have a reference. I didn't see if you mentioned it in the video, and I think there is a link in the description, but having it readily visible would be nice. Thanks for the comparison! Look forward to the settings guide!

I don't have the courage to install MSFS2024 with my current 3080ti (considering the too poor performance I had with MSFS2020 in VR with the Quest 3), and I can't wait for the RTX5000 to come out to finally upgrade my GPU!

So they didn't fix the DLSS at all, it is the same shit as 4 years before, with blurry gauges? The performance looks like they didn't do anything with better optimisation - they just added a few new things with requires more compute power so the fps is lower. This is the same non-thruly-multithreading engine?
