1. **Whistles and Ultrasonic Devices**: Special whistles and devices emit high-frequency sounds that can deter aggressive dogs. These sounds are usually unpleasant for dogs but not harmful

Im from Australia and now live in rural Philippines also traveled Indonesia,, I've found the best way to deal with the dogs is completely ignore them and pretend they don't exist, they quickly loose interest,,, also found the Muslim people there to be very friendly and helpful. Thanks for the video, good luck 😊

I've been around a lot of rural Asia and kooky dogs are absolutely everywhere. This might feel counter intuitive (keep your rocks for backup), but I've convinced myself if I don't make eye contact or react to them they quickly lose interest and it's worked for me so far.

Hi Wayne,I read citronella/pepper sprays for emergencies with dogs&maybe a folding walking stick to use as needed to intimidate/high pitch whistle. I would be too concerned over dogs. Hopefully one day they allow you inside of mosque as some of truly impressive. I still recall one in Syria where they believe part of John the Baptist is inside. I have only been to Batam as an overnight ferry trip from Singapore so hopefully will see more of Indonesia one day,stay safe and well,cheers

Great vid Wayne. Yep shame about the dogs in parts of Indonesia. Interestingly there are very few dogs in comparison on Java. A word you might find useful is tangkap = caught. When speaking to the fisherman tangkap ikan itu di mana = where did you catch that fish

i was brought up with a saying 'never show a dog fear' they pick up on that stuff. if you are friendly to them not a problem. Incidentally having watched that video to the end.. those dogs are just doing their job. they are following you and barking at you because you smell different. You are walking around areas which are peoples homes and probably with the amount of tourists they get there the dogs are on alert. the 'Alpha' would probably have left you alone if you were not threatening it and trying to intimidate it because you are frightened of it. I used to work in a job that required i entered properties with rottie and all sorts of trained guard dogs and i learned to get over my fear really quick the biggest problem (only found one that I would not enter the yard with), was actually some of those rotties are so happy to have a visitor they will let you in the yard but you'll need help getting out.

Tsunami was Boxing Day 26th December 2004, 20 years ago, I remember it well, nearly 170k people died in Aceh, North Sumatra. I don't think it affected Lombok much, but the Indon govt. sensibly took pretty strong defensive measures all over - the whole archipelago is subject to much volcanic/earthquake activity as you know. I don't like throwing stones at the dogs, too much risk of collateral damage🤕. On Java, probably other islands too, the locals tend to carry big sticks - probably not practical if you're using a scooter:-)
@fiascodagama18 сағат бұрын
Yes, I was also in Indonesia when the tsunami hit on a trip that started at the end of 2003 which caused the memory lapse saying it was at that time. One person recommended a spray bottle with wa ater and pepper/chilli mix which i hadn't heard before and thought a good idea.

The tsunami was in 2004, not 2003. It's 20 years ago this week so it's all over the news. Surfing in Austria could be interesting, seeing that there are no seas or oceans there, it's surrounded by other countries ;-)
@fiascodagama18 сағат бұрын
Yes, that's why i asked if they had a wave pool in Austria. I realized after i uploaded my mistake with the date - I was in Indonesia at the time with my trip starting in late 2003 and that was stuck in my head. Good to see you, Ninette.
