I think FP1 is not acting on the centroid of the gate. The location of hydrostatic force is always eccentricity distance below the center of gravity of the submerged area. Correct me if I am wrong.

Shouldn't we consider the location of the 10kN as the centroid of a triangle? Isn't the location of the centroid of a triangle is 1/3 of its base? Why did u use 1/2? Thank you :)
@memelol98163 жыл бұрын
No you should't assume that. Look at that 10 kn, it is weight od the fate. It suppose at the centre of the inclined planed. He give 1/2 at 10 kn due to its moment at point A so it is (10kn)*(1/2 m).

Sir, why did you consider the weight of a gate but to your other example you did not put the weight of a gate? Please enlighten me
@hizamshahrusmi9 жыл бұрын
Great vid mate. Just 1 question, are you assumming the position of F1 acting at the centroid of the gate due to simplication? Due to trapezoid pressure prism, I think we should determine the position of F1 which is Ycp.
@Portedrea9 жыл бұрын
+Ezam Shah One can either use the centre of pressure (i.e. finding where the resultant acts along the gate), or the force along the centroid added with a couple.

if we dont take fp1 at centroid of surface but take it at centroid of pressure profile then what would be the Y(r) ..since Y(c)=1 then Y(r)=1.66?????

what if there is water on both side with the gate is in between, how to solve?
@augusttoday5 жыл бұрын
I did a problem like this before. The free body diagram would have more forces acting on the left side and the right side, I had to make 2 free body diagrams to do it one for the left side and one for the right side because the center of pressures were different because of the angle that the gate is tilted at. It was a confusing problem. It also depends on the heights of the water on both sides, because the pressure would be different if the heights of the water were different via density times height times gravity.
