The 2016 Pacific Hurricane Season was one of the most active seasons on record. In the ranking for most active Pacific hurricane seasons, 2016 is tied currently with 2014, both having 22 named storms.
Similarly to the Atlantic, the season got a very early start with Hurricane Pali forming in the Central Pacific in mid-January. After Pali, the next named storm wouldn't arrive until July, but after that point, the season displayed multiple powerful storms, and activity was high from July to the end of September.
The season began to quiet down as Pacific Hurricane Seasons typically do in October and November. The last storm of the season was Tropical Storm Otto, which crossed over from the Atlantic after making a hurricane landfall in Central America. Until the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season, Otto was the only storm to carry over an Atlantic name to the East Pacific and remain a Tropical Storm, as before the year 2000, any Atlantic storm that crossed over and remained/re-strengthened into a Tropical Storm would be renamed to an East Pacific name (an example of this is Hurricane Cesar-Douglas of 1996).
