8:20 Heads up. You can determine when you activate special abilities during the fight, not when you draw them. That's why you exhaust (turn sideways) the card to remind you when you've already used them

I now have 60 board and card games in my collection. I planned to have a regular games night with friends, then COVID happened. I am grateful for solo games. Thank you for this video, which I watched before buying the game. It has just recently arrived and I am eager to play.

@@travelwithdrawal8067 I now have over 100 board and card games....lol! Some of my solo games or games that offer solo play are: 5 Minute Mystery, Bandido, Calico, Chai, Quiddler, Traffic Jam and Tubyrinth. Good luck with your single player collection.

The main reason I've been able to get into board gaming is through solo play. I actually got started playing Pandemic "two-handed", where I'd just play two characters. Now I'm at the point where I'm playing games as complex as Paladins of the West Kingdom. And I just got my copy of Friday a few days ago and I'm going to play it for the first time right now!

5:38 extra cards should be placed to the right side of the encounter. But on 5:50 you put it in the left; it's right now not super important, but card combos later will target specifically either the left or the right cards, so best to do this correctly from the start. 7:16 you can do that a bit more efficiently.. 8:18 these "danger" cards (green/yellow/red eyes) I place them UNDER the challenge card deck. It's easier to see the level you're on that way. Also, at the start of the game you need to show the pirates, because your whole strategy will be based upon defeating the pirates! And also worth mentioning is: if you thin your deck so extremely that you create a kind of endless loop, after drawing the last age card there is a new Lose condition added by Friedemann Friese himself, you die of old age, thematically, you never got off the island. So Friday had a surprise for its creator ♪ (that lose by old age condition is missing from the retail copies but should be added in every copy of the game.)

Hey Ben, thanks for the awesome explanation. Recently bought this game and just finished reading the instruction booklet, which did seem a bit confusing. Your video makes it super simple to understand. The only thing that I guess is important to make use of (and understand how to use) are the special abilities, which you briefly touched on. there is this card that allows you to change 1 or 2 cards. can these cards change themselves out? And can they change out cards with used abilities?

I know my response is late, but it might help someone else with a similar question. 1. A card can not swap itself out - it can only swap out other cards. 2. Cards with used abilities can be swapped! However... 3. If you activate Exchange +2 and the first card drawn has an ability, you can not activate its ability until you swap for a second card OR you stop using the exchange ability. You may swap the newly drawn card - but it's ability can not be used.

this game is definitely hard, its not just you. Its definitely up to luck coinciding with your strategy but without a solid strategy, youll always fail so it doesnt feel like its all just RNG

This game is not for everyone. Avoid this game if any of the following applies: - you are blind - you think solo games are sad and for people without friends, - you have discalculitis Hands down super game, and if you get bored after a few dozen plays you can give it to a friend.

What about the second time you play the game. Isn't there a way to make it level two?

The only difference between level one and two is the number you have to beat on the cards is now the yellow number not the green one (and the third level means you now have to beat the red number) does that make sense?
