Ford 2008 F 450 Powerstroke High Idle Mod

An easy mod to easily control 1200 RPM high idle using the factory installed aux upfitter switches to warm up the engine quicker in colder weather or when extended idling is necessary to keep A/C running etc., as idling for long periods can cause problems like wet stacking. The upfitter switches and the wire color codes are for all 2008 F250/350/450/550.

Thank you for take time and make a nice video to help others.. I'm feeling frustrated, because something too easy and did not work on my truck. I have a 2008 f-350 diesel, I did it just like you did, making sure right wires, but not lucky. Do you think in my case I have to use a resistor. But why? If many people do it too simple.. Thanks mauro! I'm not sure why it doesn't work...If you are using one of the four upfitter switches to activate it, does the switched wire have power? When the switches are in the on position do they have a yellow indicator lights illuminated? If not possibly a blown fuse. Make sure parking brake is set. If the yellow-green with (YE-GN) PTO label wire doesn't work, try Violet- Brown (VT-BN) BCPSW labeled wire. I'm not sure if you would need a resistor, or what value the resistor would have to be. Hopefully this info is helpful. :-)

I just did this to mine and as it begins to rev up the green wrench light on the dash comes on. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure why the green wrench light comes on as the idle begins to ramp up... there is possibly a code that would show with a code reader.

Yes it can, you just change the resistors value. 4700 ohm I believe

Hello, can I lower the idle. My truck is at 900 rpm ? I would like it at 600 or 650. 2008 F450, 6.4

Hello, I'm not sure why your idle is higher at 900 rpm. Possibly an engine temp sensor? It should be around 600 to 650 normally and only go up to around 800 or 900 when engine is very cold.

Do you ground out the high idle wire?

No it doesn't need to be grounded. The high idle ( yellow/ w green stripe PTO) wire in the bundle is spliced onto one of the upfitter switches.
