Ford 4000 tractor PTO seal replacement

I have the exact same 4000 and need to do my seal. I will press the seal in with a shop press though. Thanks for the vid clip !

Shop press is the way to go.

Thanks for the video. From the type of snap ring that you have (with eyelets) it looks like the shaft has been removed and the snap rings replaced.

That’s very possible as old as these tractors are. I’ve found some funny fixes from some previous owners.

@@flipflopsgarage Same on my 68 Ford 4000, course I cannot complain too much as my father in law bought it new the same day my wife was born (You can see his priorities). So I can trace back every issue that comes up to the original "fix". I did manage to get all the bailing wire off of it though :D

If you do have to pull out the shaft for any reason if you engage the pto before pulling out the shaft the slip ring Won't drop.

HI would I need to have the tractor running while engaging the pto clutch (independant type) as my thinking is the thrust washer is then sandwiched with pressure on the clutch plates
