Super clever way of navigating your way around the lack of a boss on the block

Thank you for the thorough video! Wow I wish I had this as a reference last year. I didn’t have a z-bar for the automatic transmission cab I used because I did a swap onto a manual 1986 F350 frame. I ended up building an extension rod for the 86 pedal assembly and moved the clutch cylinder further center in the engine compartment with tons of firewall bracing. I definitely would have spent more time trying to track down those OE brackets and gone this route instead.

Just subscribed to your channel, very informative, thank you. I've been racking my brain over hydraulic or mech clutch. I'll go old school mech. 429 to a Zf 5speed to a 205 transfer case in a 78 truck. Thanks again for the info!

Have you driven this setup yet? I'm about to swap a 300 straight 6 with ZF into my old crew cab. Somebody ground the slave cylinder Mount off. I think I'd rather have mechanical anyway

On some of the earlier truck firewalls there is clearly a spot where a clutch master goes for the bigger trucks - F600 and up. So you could have stayed hydraulic which is quite a bit easier but you would have had to go to hydroboost on the brakes which isn't a terrible idea either.

Can you do a video of the linkage you used for the transfer case
@adamdice2312 жыл бұрын
Let me know if there is anything in particular that you are curious about. It is just the factory linkage for a 1991 F-250.

did the truck have a t18 in it before the zf5 and if so what modifications to the truck did you have to make to fit the zf5 i got a 1977 im wanting to swap
@adamdice2312 жыл бұрын
It had a NP435 in it. The mounting point for the ZF5 transmission is further back than the existing crossmember. I made a new transmission crossmember. The 1356 transfer case is also big enough that a little notch needs to be cut into the lower part of the frame. I was planning on making a video showing some more details of the project anyways, but I'll try to hurry to show the details of the transmission swap.

Crap. The 2wd l&l mounts also have it too high. My z to fork rod angle is atrocious and i made my own zf5 z bar bracket level with frame mount. Needs to go up
@adamdice2317 ай бұрын
Yeah, mine was terrible too. I thought mine was probably due to mix and matching parts and lowering the engine. Sounds like you got it figured out.

@@adamdice231 I'm at the l&l height and if the engine n trans went down about the 7/16ths you mentioned it would reduce the angle for sure. I need to pause n look at your block z mount n compare to mine.
