Can you do this test with an engine that has been driven for say 1 hour, and then let idle for 20 minutes?

The 2024 Ford service manual says the MINIMUM oil pressure for the 7.3L at idle is 8 psi. I don't see why people think that's where it runs.

It would be cool if you find a 2023 or 2024 Ford 7.3 gas truck that has had the TSB done to increase idle oil pressure and see what it runs at.

Good video. I would like to have seen one more parameter - drive it on the highway for 20 to 30 minutes, then stop and check the idle pressure immediately. Then, also let it idle for about 5 to 10 minutes AFTER pulling off the highway and check that psi again. Just to see if ~20 psi at idle is consistent under all conditions. Cheers Bro.

The Duke says, so in my opinion this debunks all of the opinions that say that low oil pressure is the cause of valve train damage in the Godzilla engine. Which by the way I have one. a 2023. 22 lb of oil pressure at idle in Park is more than enough oil pressure to keep everything lubricated. Plus let's not forget it's not all about oil pressure, there's also oil flow to consider. Think about it, what's going to lubricate an engine better, 22 lb of oil pressure through a small orifice or 22 LB of oil pressure through a large orifice? There are aftermarket cam manufacturers that are having their cams fall apart as soon as they are installed in high performance vehicles. That tells me it's a material/manufacturing problem from the manufacturer. You can blame Ford or anybody you want, but it seems to me this conclusively shows us it is not oil pressure causing damage. The early models were more prone to this not the newer ones. Thank you for providing this video and showing us real world results. What did I teach you?

The lifter issue seems to be presenting for high idle trucks being used as field utility trucks (aka like boom trucks). It would be great to test oil pressure at a full 120 minutes of idle. I sometimes stop at rest stops and make lengthy work phone calls of 30-60 min with my Godzilla. Instead of letting it just idle through I occasionally give the throttle a kick and boost the pressure a little. By the way I also cold start my truck and let it idle quiet for 1-5 minutes. I start it and then load what I need, wipe the mirrors, wipe the backup cam, check tire pressure, go snag another kiss goodbye from my lovey wife - and then up and out my subdivision for 2 min at about 15mph. Then I get on a 2 mile straightaway and it is off to the races cuz those 445 ci in horses want to Go Go Godzilla

Thanks for the test im interested because i have one. One thing ive noticed mine idles same 600-700 rpm in park or neutral when warm but when idling in drive with foot on the brake like a red light or stop sign it dips down between 400-500 rpm. The lifter damage could be happening during this time for folks who live in a city. The idle rpm is lower than anyother truck ive ever had and the oil pressure test you done seems kind of low across the board to me. Seems like ford would have just increased the oil pressure this is a major failure for what otherwise seems like a great engine. If you get time please redo the test with parking brake set hot and in drive where the rpms are in the 400-500 range. Just a theory but my guess is this is when most the wear is occurring at long red lights drive threws etc.

2021 F-250 with 23,000mi the pressure was taken before the oil filter with a NIST traceable gage model PTE-1 with a 0-100 psig sensor.

I believe Ford now has an ecm reflash to increase idle speed. Smoking gun??

@@jimbobxcityguy5338 I know. I think 20 is still low at idle. My Pacifica never goes below 30 psi and when I am running high rpm’s it goes to 70 psi.
