You can also use a 29mm axle nut socket..works perfect

What I forgot to mention is while I applied 680 Locktite to the "nonserviceable plug" I also applied it to the18mm bolt plug at the back of the pump and the two fittings for the oil lines in the pump. I didn't apply it to the IPR because I figured that's a lot of threads on a large bolt and I wouldn't have the chance to heat it properly to remove it if I needed to. The 18mm drive HPOP drive bolt has fine threads so there will be a lot of turning until it's tight. Just take a breaker bar and keep turning it until the motor turns. Some references say this is tight enough but this will be less than the 95 ft - lbs. That's why I had to restrain the motor from turning by using a large wrench. If this bolt isn't tight you will get a no start. Dieseldoc2342 is the person that made the hydraulic lines for me and he sells these on Ebay.

#Ray darman Did you need new fittings for the hoses to the heads?
@steverivinius56865 жыл бұрын
None of the 7.3 s had crossover hoses.we started adding them on our own.l see them out there but not stock.
@HaydenIngram8 жыл бұрын
The quick connects your talking about on the hpop hoses are eaton stc(snap to connect) fittings. It's actually a good design and they hold up extremely well and at 336k I have yet to have a leak on one. I'm guessing by this time your hpop probably has some wear on it would of been wise to buy a new Bosch one for about $600 and not worry about it for a long time. Although a reseal job will last a while too...
@Cfass15 жыл бұрын
None of the 7.3l’s came with a crossover hose so don’t feel like you got ripped off. Has everything held up since the video. Btw I think... not positive but I think that tool can be used for the fuel lines with the quick disconnect fittings as well. And you should probably replace the fuel lines going to the heads since you have done all of this. I guarantee that they are cracked and are the weak link. Thanks for your video.

This video is for informed mechanics. Being a rookie at this stuff, this video leaves me lots of questions and concerns. I will say however this is well worth reviewing for great tips if you’re intent on doing this yourself.

Thanks for the Info. I think you need that spring and check ball in there that you removed ? Also was the Drive bolt and washer kind of a problem and could definitely drop down into the timing cover ?
@Raydarman12 жыл бұрын
Spring and check ball definitely not needed with the new hoses. Been running for years no problem. That washer is too thick it can’t possibly drop but take it easy and make sure it’s well seated in the socket when you surgically remove it. Best of luck.

Nice vid!! Did you see any evidence of an oil leak out of the hpop?? I just got a 2003 f350 7.3 and I see ail leak at the bottom.. I'm hoping its just the hpop.. Beautiful job..I like the way that hpop cleaned up.. Wish I had this skill..
@hesson816 жыл бұрын
Oops you detailed it at the end.. Still a good project even though it was coming from the plug.. Is that where it was coming from.. I'm barely learning what blow by is ..so now I'm on my way home to do the oil cap filler test.. I hope it turns out okay..
@TheJared14455 жыл бұрын
hesson81 just stick the oil filler cap upside down on the engine while running. If it doesn’t move or flip over, then you’re fine. A little bit of blow by is normal for a 7.3 or any diesel for that matter.

Why are you pulling the sensor to siphon out the oil and not just the allen key reservoir plug to the right of it?
@Raydarman14 жыл бұрын
Mainly because it’s sticking up and in my way. I just removed it so as not to damage it.

Hello. Please help me. When the car is worth a week. Oil flows from the reservoir to the crankcase. What could be the reason? I can not start the engine. The starter spins for 30 seconds and then the engine starts.

Bought those hoses horrible fit, all the extra elbows make it real P.I.A to put on as opposed to the original ones that have the Pre Bent tube that goes into the head and into the Hpop.

Did you have to crank it much to get it to fire up?
@Raydarman16 жыл бұрын
Just turn the key on to get the fuel bowl to fill up. Will take a few cranks to get the fuel circulated and will start no problem.
