It was a very good year for Lincoln. The Lincoln Continental Town Car and the Continental Mark IV were the best looking luxury cars in the world. They were dependable and easy to work on. Cadillac sales suffered considerably with the introduction of the Mark series. I think it was a stupid move when Lincoln production of the Town Car and the Mark came to an end. But I have to say, "Lincoln, what a luxury card should be."

So there was the Lincoln Continental sedans and coupès. And the Mark Series. Was the Continental Mark Series still simply branded as "Continental" instead of "Lincoln"?

"it is a very good year" He was terrifyingly correct, particularly 1973 was the last 'good year'

They increased emission control systems to meet their standards...again, draining horsepower and drinking more gas, and the fuel embargo started in October of '73 - ending in March of '74, increasing the gas prices at the pump in its aftermath! But still in all, the cars were still nice, though! I always liked the Imperial LeBaron more, though!

While the suicide door Lincoln's seem to get all the glory I actually liked the early 1970's Lincoln's the best, I always thought the Lincoln's looked a lot better than the Cadillac's of the same era.

Dobbie 1975 I am slightly indifferent. Drove a 1973 Cadillac Coupe dé Ville for 9 years from 1986 - 1995 and drove over 60K miles and loved it (I wish I still had it) but always dreamed about the Continental Mark IV. I have that now - a 1975 Continental Mark IV - have had it since 2002 and love it. Just parked it after a tour about town. It is hard looking at something else, once you drive a Mark IV. You feel really spoiled. If I should pick a Lincoln Continental from the 1960's, it would be the 1965. Black with tuxedo interior like the first US car I ever was a passenger in as a kid around 1974. It is the ultimate aristocratic Lincoln Continental. The 1966 and 67 models are really nice - I do love them - but the 1965 has something about it they don't. In the 1970's my favourites are the 1972, 1978 and 1979. 1972 because the door handles on the rear doors are levelled with the front doors and the front pumper is not yet pulled out. 1978 and 1979 because they are grand. Funny thing is that of all the cars I have driven (not owned), I have NEVER driven a sedan from the 1970's. It is actually weird. The closest will always be the 1976 Grand Marquis I owned in the mid 1990's. When it comes to Cadillac, my top of the line year is 1973 de Ville and Fleetwood and the smashing limousine. (The Eldorado is not so cool to me.) Both because of the exterior and interior design. The ride speaks for itself. It is smooth, yet not as soft as my Mark IV. The next is the 1975 de Ville and Fleetwood, because I like the grill better than in 1976. Eldorados from 1975 and 1976 are equally fine to me. I had a 1978 Fleetwood factory limousine from 1997 - 2002 and drove over 65K miles in it. Primarily for business. It was a very very strong and reliable Cadillac, which offered the ultimate comfort for driver and passengers in anything from hot summer days to winter snow storms in 20C minus. It never left me stuck in a winter storm. With Canadian white wall winter tires it went straight through the snow drifts. I participated in a training program arranged for limousine drivers on a wet race track, where the instructor forced us to "cross the line." In a long curve we should keep accellerating untill we lost the rear and. We all drove on all-year white wall tires. This means that I have done a controlled 360 degree spin in a Fleetwood limousine. It was a jaw dropping experience - mostly for the instructor, as he initially didn't have high thoughts about US cars. We participated with my 1978 Fleetwood factory limousine, a 1979 Cadillac stretched limousine, two different model year Lincoln stretch limousines from the 1980's and a 1981 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II. Neither of them failed the test!! The Lincoln limousine owner also brought along his Ford (VW) Galaxy van, front wheel drive, he used for luggage. It was the only car that lost control and flew off the track! My future plan is to get myself a limousine again, for the time to come when I hand in my drivers license. I don't believe in super senior drivers being safe in traffic. The ultimate dream is a 1966 Lincoln Continental (the b pillar in the 1967 is not so pretty), but they are hard to find. There is one in the country, but a previous owner got the weird idea to rebuilt it with a Continentel Mark III front. He should not have done that. It is a lot of work rebuilding it back properly. Alternative is the 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood factory limousine. They are hard to find as well. (There is a 1972 for sale here - unsold for over 10 years!!!), so time will show what we end up with. One thing for sure is that it must be black like the 1978 we had. You can show up anywhere with that with a black tie driver.
