Ford 7700 round baling hay

Following along with a neighbor as he round bales hay with a 1978 Ford 7700 and a New Holland 850. This field made 14 round bales. Overall, the fields don't seem to have as much material in them as usual. The late freezes hurt a lot of the early growth.

Sold many NH 850's and Allis-Chalmers tractors when I was a dealer. Once we convinced farmers that chains were the best way to go, then NH switched to belts. But belts I guess were the way to go.

@smallfarmsurvival Instead of zig zagging with the baler, rake the rows 3 to 1. Go around 3 times and go back once the opposite way and have the rows lightly touch in the middle. You'll get better looking bales and won't have to go side to side

We have an 850 on my family's farm, they are a great baler. Is that one of f The newer ones with the twine box 9n the front, most ive seen had them on the side, I think they are about a 1200lb roll if memory serves my right. We sti have it, but we haven't used it in probably a decade although we are thinking about raising cattle again. I actually miss hay season.

Yeah the more chances you take though the more likely you’re gonna have a problem I’m always pretty conservative on the hay

Yep. I've spent many an hour raking and cursing the clouds as they move in. Sometimes there's only a two hour difference between marginal hay and great hay.

1200 pound round bale vs 50 pound small square bale. Big square bales are 2000 pound..

It feeds the string on to the outside of the bale. Newer balers have electronic systems that do the same thing.
