Took me about 3 months since I had barely any experience working on cars and Murphy's law hit pretty hard (had to cut out and replace old hoses that wouldn't quick release, etc.). Ever since then, though, pretty much any of the myriad car issues I've run into seem pretty trivial to handle myself, though, which has been a huge benefit.

I just fixed my a/c on my 2009 f250 in 2 minutes after watching this video and one other. Turned out a coil wire wasn't all the way engaged. Code reader said coil c primary and secondary circuit. I pulled on the wire it came right off. Pushed it back on till it clicked. Started truck and for the first time since owning the truck the a/c clutch engaged. I can't believe that worked! I am in shock and ahh. All the days I poured sweet knowing I didn't have the money to fix the a/c. I wasn't looking for the easy fix. You got me thinking. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

Makuloco thanks for all the videos. I have a 2013 Explorer Limited 2.0 Ecoboost. The AC in it works sort of. When driving and in motion works great when still or in slow moving traffic it is awful. To me this suggest air flow or fan problem. Is there a way with ForScan to trigger the High speed on the fan? If High speed didn't work wouldn't that throw a MIL? The temp in it stays constant according to the dash. Right in the middle never gets hot but I honestly don't recall the fan EVER going into high except when I changed the turbo, added coolant, and waited and waited and waited for the thermostat to kick in so I could add the other half of my coolant. At which point the head slightly temporarily for just a min or less overheated. As SOON as the thermostat FINALLY put coolant in the block I added coolant to top it off. Other than that instance I don't recall the fan going into high. WHere how can I test that? Are you familiar with ForScan? it is a free utility and MANY of us DIY'ers love it Very helpful will do MOST diagnostic and module programing that IDF will do just not main PCM programming.

Great video. Quick question, on an '04 mercury sable what would be causing issues with ac operation blowing hot air at idle or slow traffic yet highway speeds the ac is cold. Both fans are running. Swapped new fans no change. Unlike an older ford V6 contour it doesn't seem the the ac condenser fan isn't running at a higher speed?

2006 to 2012 Ford Fusion and the Air blows cold for just a few seconds and then turns to heat, click the temperature control nob two clicks to the right off the coldest setting and start the car/AC. Some folks have said that turning on the headlights and fog lights on also works. I haven't tried it yet because it is 90 degrees here and I'm leaving my AC on and don't want to mess with anything until fall. Apparently, there is some service notification about the computer related to all the vehicle cabin functions and controls that is causing this.

Daughter's 2013 Fusion's a/c wasn't working. She took it in. The garage said she needed a new compressor. $$$$$ Not having the funds and since it turned cold, she declined. Warmed up again in Texas. She took the car to another garage. They discovered that the compressor clutch bolt was MISSING!!! Mechanic said they've had to install many (qty?) clutch bolts on Ford vehicles. Replaced the bolt and all OK. Bottom line......daughter is HAPPY!!! That's what it's all about.

The low pressure protection circuit is for more than just the oil. Refrigerant helps dissipate heat form the compressor. Running without refrigerant will overheat the compressor. That would be like blocking the airflow across your radiator, the engine would seize up even with plenty of oil.

Hey thanx for the well thought out lessons. I am stumbling over my dealer shop manual for my Chevy Venture saying use R134a synthetic PAG oil internally in the AC system, but the seals and fitting threads are to be coated with 525 viscosity mineral base refrigerant oil. They warn of dire consequences. The only 525 mineral base refrigerant oil I find is R12 compatible, none so far say R134a. Wouldn’t traces of the mineral base get into the internal (“circulating is” the term they use) R134oil ? And how can the internal oil damage the seals? It says it over and over. Also, for $9 I got the 1999 manual. 2,000 pages, the real one. It has an accumulator as opposed to my 2001 having a receiver/dryer. The Manila says 8 oz. total internal PAG oil, but it says 3.5 goes into the accumulator. Does the receiver/dryer get the same amount? The 2001 manual is $140. I need to know how much goes into the entire system (C60, front HVAC only) and how much, if any, of that goes into the condenser and the receiver/dryer. I assume the evaporator is the same as the 1998 model. I have all new components save for the refrigerant lines and senors/wiring. I’m putting new weather stripping on the doors in the HVAC case while I investigate this further. Any advice or pointing to a cheap source of the info would be appreciated. I tore the whole dash apart by the seat of my pants while blind in one eye from surgery. The Haines dorsn’t Show the HVAC case/evaporator replacement procedures, and I just got the dealer shop book the day after I got the case/evap out. I hadn’t perused these out of date dealer manuals online until 10 days ago.

Funny how this video shows up in my feed. Last Wednesday 5-8-19 it got above 80°F in western Indiana which made inside of car over 100°F. So I turned on A/C and started towards town. Stopped to turn corner and huge puff of smoke came from under hood. A/C clutch was on fire. Turned off A/C and all was good again and smoke cleared. That's funny because the night before it worked perfect like it always does. In the last 4 years I've had everything except compressor replaced by pro shops and it's worked beautifully. Tomorrow afternoon I have an appointment at my Ford shop in town for A/C repair. Can't fix it myself because it's mounted on the bottom of engine which is strange and so it has to go up on a lift. Don't know if it's failed bearings in the clutch or if the compressor locked up for some reason.

Great videos we appreciate the helpful information. I have a slightly different scenario. I have a 2014 Fusion that is stuck on 15 degrees on the temperature control on both sides and will not adjust up or down on the digital display or the mechanical buttons below the digital display. As a result, it only blows cold air all the time. The ambient temperature seems to be showing the correct temp. By the way, the settings are set for Fahrenheit and not Celsius. Could this be caused by the Evap Sensor? Most of the videos seem to imply that you will only get heat if the evap sensor goes out, but I am only getting cold instead. It's as if the car thinks that I have the controls set to 15 degrees and it is trying the best it can to get it down the that temp, although we know that could never happen.

Just did fresh oil change with oem filter an has oem cap or equivalent, the drain works fine to my knowledge, internal cluster gauge dosent move but oil builds up in filter housing, so should have good base pressure, and no white smoke that I've noticed. I'm using a scangauge 2 and noticed just with key on, ipr sits just below 200psi and doesn't change hardly when cranking..

great video man , very informational , quick question , My heater works but ac dont , i can put it on ac and it will blow but no cold air what so ever, could these be the same issues to look at?

Yes. If AC not blowing cold that usually indicates compressor not coming on... vehicles wont turn it on if pressure isn't right because improper pressure wont circulate the PAG oil through the compressor, causing extreme damage. First thing to verify is the compressor not turning on/engaging (audible "click" with change in RPM), then check low side pressure to get reading (note itll vary based on vehicle as well as ambient outside temperature)...

Great info.. I Have an 09' Escape (non hybrid low miles) & the AC was working fine. The Clutch was a little noisy but worked. Then we killed the engine & when we got back inside there was No AC! Just Blowing hot air. I Checked Compressor, it's cycling or Clutch working. Fuses & Relays good. Maybe a low or High Pressure Switch. I hooked up a freon can w/ a gauge while AC on & it pegged out in the Red & states, Take to Technician Immediately! Luckily I have Carshield & they are paying for the repairs.

I have a 2013 f150 5.0L. I live in Canada. Its been cold. I have found lately the cooling fans have been running on high about 30 seconds after i start the truck and doesnt turn off. I checked all the relays and havent found anything yet. Could the ac pressure switch effects this? Any suggestions

Well Done video. The PCM is no longer my adversary, Its my buddy. We used Forscan on a 2010 Crown Vic and determined short in clutch relay circuit, With help from a wiring diagram found pin number at pcm and color wire. We continuity tested wires to find break and spliced in a new wire. A/C cold ! Accessing the PCM can be intimidating at first. Patience and lots of Google..

Will the FORScan for iOS do the same test as the one on the computer? I have the Forscan viewer but it will not connect to the obdi connector listed in the description. Any information on this would be helpful. Thanks

My 04 Eddie Baur Expy is being weird (again, always has a/c issues.) This time the a/c not blowing out of the front vents at all. Not even from the defrost vents. But, the rear vents are working perfectly. We just hit 102 weather, and its not fun to drive around in the heat.

Your vid was a detailed investigation into wether the compressor and clutch was working, while not car specific, was a Damm good analogy of failure of pcm and or compressor and clutch. Can you send me a link to your vids on the accumulator, dryer, and the plugs and switches that operate those ac components, also is there a scan tool that can alert me to the faulty blend door actuators, that may not be model specific?

I've got a 2011 explorer. Thst would pop the 10a AC clutch fuse randomly. Now it pops as soon as I replace it, not clutch engagement. 2 days ago the AC was working fine

I have a question regarding the A/C system in my 2003 F250 6.0. When I got it, the A/C didn’t work. I found that the 10 amp fuse (I believe it said a/c clutch) under the dash had blown. I replaced it, and it worked alright, except the starter had a hard time turning over. It was almost like the engine locked up (that clunk sound). Aside from that, the A/C was cold and worked fine. Until I took off driving. Once I did, the same fuse blew. Any ideas? My only thought was a short in the A/C coil.

hey Brian love the videos, had a question about 2003 explorer xlt with rear a/c. The front a/c blows cold ( fixed both the blend door motor and the max a/c fresh air door which fell on the blower motor.) I have an issue with the Rear a/c it only blows hot air, i tried to switch it from cold to hot and vice versa. The fan motor works fine. have any thoughts as to what it might be?

Sounds like your rear expansion valve if you've already replaced the blend door

Had a similar problem with a vehicle of mine. Rear blend door needed to be replaced. As a side note, the rear unit also ended up developing a leak and I kept losing my refrigerant. $400+ for a new unit, or $50 for two compression fittings to cut and block the back lines. Economy has spoken, the kids no longer get cold air.

Pinch off the heater hoses near the rear A/C unit and see if cold air comes out. If it does the problem is either a blend door or heater water valve. If it does not blow cold you have a refrigerant problem.
