The 1s time I saw one of these little cuties, I thought what an adorable little camper it would make, and this one is the proof. 😊 Love how you tucked the cassette toilet under with the false front to tie it in with the other bins. It's those little touches that make the conversion.

If only the bed covered the kitchen it would make enough space for two people. I’m doing this to my next notability vehicle- shower exactly the same, portaloo, and a sofa bed, hoping to travel Europe but possibly just uk and wales. More magnets would stop the shower curtain from blowing in the wind. Best little conversion I’ve seen
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The seat/bed height was determined by the porta potti and useable storage space. Any higher and the average persons head would touch the ceiling. Any lower and the potti wouldn't fit. To get a double bed over the hob would have made it uncomfortably low and possibly dangerous to use. Also there wouldn't be much space underneath for gas and water containers. Of course a double bed would be necessary for two people but most conversions I've seen in this sized van have a pull out drawer with a hob for cooking outside. Also as the bed takes up most of the internal space it has to be made up from outside. I wanted to make a self contained camper for one where you could do everything from inside. Especially in the typical British weather. With the exception of the shower of course.
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
If you check out the conversion I've done to my own van you will see I've doubled up the shower curtain to stop anyone seeing through, added extra magnets as you suggest and peg it down at the bottom. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYHTkmWiatxkf9U

Great build loved the tip about the potta potty 🤣 Shower area is genius. Can you tell me are you running a leisure battery from the alternator ? Am hoping can get away with solar charging mine. I've my build planned just struggling with the whole electric side of things.
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
Funny you should ask. I've just fitted a leisure battery to my own van this week. Most of the stuff I use in the van is low energy consumption, LED's, tablet, occasional water pump etc. and I would only run the 12v coolbox while driving. So I thought I wouldn't need a leisure battery. But I forgot I need to run a CPAP machine for 7-8 hours at night. Not wanting to lose storage space in the van I managed to find a small 60Ah AGM battery which would fit on it's side in the space behind the passenger seat. I was not keen on fitting a solar panel to the roof as I like to be able to get under height restrictions, I didn't want to drill a hole in the roof, I like to keep the van stealthy looking for the occasional urban camp and also the cost. So I went for the split charging option as I do drive out & about sightseeing when I'm away. It only cost £72 for a ready made kit. I've filmed some of the install and will put up a video if I have enough useable footage. All the best with your van.
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
P.S. I might get a suitcase type solar panel next summer to use on site in the morning and late afternoon to compliment the split charger if I feel I need it. I will see how I get on.

@@LindzandLife I don't put out videos on a regular basis, just as & when really. Split chargers work in older vehicles like mine but newer one's with 'smart' alternators need a battery to battery charger. Gadget John's channel is a good one for electrics & tech stuff.

Thanks, yes I made them from reflectix with a black shower curtain material bonded to one side with a high temperature spray glue. They were cut so they tuck in the rubber window seals.

Superb job! I'm curious about the water pump for your sink. Is it electrical? If so do you have a deep cycle battery somewhere or do you run your shower from the 12V from the car's battery?
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
The water pump is a 12v submersible dropped in the water container operated from a micro switched tap. In my own Connect I have squeezed in a 60Ah AGM leisure battery behind the passenger seat. To run a 12v coolbox as well.

Hi, Iv just bought a connect and looking to have it converted for night fishing etc.. if I gave you my van how much would it cost to have this conversion done by you? Kind regards Phil
@afordbabblecampervan75553 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, unfortunately I gave up my workshop unit so I have nowhere to work. I do have a kitchen unit & a bed unit made up for a Tourneo Connect which I brought home. It could possibly be adapted to fit a standard Connect if you have DIY skills. Email me if you're interested, email address in the link.

If you're not after anything to flash I have the ply storage units with bed ready to go. As used in this camping trip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqS4h4ekoqaoe5o Also I have a set of 3 rear seats available too.

Nice work. I came over from seeing the one you built for Lorna, London Boat Girl. You have fitted in just about everything I would be looking for except for some sort of solar power to charge up a second battery or perhaps an outlet to power a laptop. Have you thought of an option like that?
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
Welcome. You could fit these if you have the need. But I like to be able to fit under height barriers and the extra storage space a battery would take up. It's swings & roundabouts. Personal choice.

Very nice build! You may have said already, but is this van a long wheel base?
@afordbabblecampervan75553 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes you are right this is the long wheel base high top version of the Ford Tourneo Connect.

Would this be tall enough to stand in? I’m 5’5 for reference. Awesome build!
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
Thanks. There is just over 4'5" of headroom in this van so you can't stand up, but it benefits from being able to fit under height restrictions.

Very nice camper! The only major thing I would change is the hose fro the outlet of the LP tank going to the cooker, the connections just don't look proper for an LP hook up.
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I'd just like to point out as you can't see it from the video, the gas hose is connected to a bulkhead fitting which is connected by 9mm copper pipe to the hob. It conforms with LPG regs.

You should put a fold down extension on the counter so you have room to actually cook

Hi Mark, could I get a Ford Tourneo connect with an automatic gearbox? This conversation would be great for me, you have thought of everything needed for comfort.
@jac62744 жыл бұрын
Conversion! Bloomin auto text!
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
I've not seen one myself. If there are any they would be few & far between. The newer model Tourneo Connect does have an automatic option but there is not as much headroom inside so this layout wouldn't work without lowering the seating height and losing the porta potti storage underneath.
@jac62744 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark. Thought that might be the case. I really like the way the porta potti stores away, it’s all neat and tidy. Need to look around for a similar vehicle to the one you use, just with the right dimensions for your conversion. Hurt my back jogging years ago so have only driven autos since then.
@jac62744 жыл бұрын
Can I ask, do you insure your van as a camper or keep it as a van? Do you have to let DVLA know it’s been converted?
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
I knew exercise is bad for your health that's why I avoid it. Most people change their PANEL VAN conversions to motorhome to get cheaper insurance. Tourneo's have seats & windows and the taxation class on the log book is car. It might be wise to inform them of the number of seats if you remove any. Have a look at the Nissan NV200. You can get that in the car version with an automatic gearbox.

Nice and simple conversion. The build quality looks great. I also have a tourneo connect. I think they make decent micro campers. People are still shocked when I tell them my family sleeps in mine. Me the wife and 7 year old.
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm a big fan of these vans. Internal space vs compact external size. I see you have kept one of the rear seats in yours, I'm currently working on my own van and have done the same. I've toyed with the idea of a roof mounted solar panel but I like to get under height restrictions. I don't use that much power when I'm camping anyway.

is there any way to make it stand-up-able ? Like a homemade semi-fixed roof or something (i dont like the idea of not being able to stand up)
@afordbabblecampervan75554 жыл бұрын
I've seen a pop-top on ebay for £2300 you have to fit it yourself. It doesn't look that pretty either. I find the only time I need to stand up is to put my trousers on or to take a pee. I can put my trousers on laying on the bed, and take a pee kneeling into a bottle or on the porta potti or outside in the bushes! A pop top would also stop me from getting under height barriers and spoil the stealthy look.
