Ford Crown Vic Throttle Body removal, clean, reinstall

Appreciate the video...I've got an 05 Interceptor with 138k on it and after replacing the plugs and coil packs last week the car started 'stumbling' at idle. Cleaned the MAF and followed what you did here...WOW! It's like a brand new car.

Thank you for this video...I had a lighted yellow wrench on the dash on my 2011 p71 and cleaned the throttle body which took me about 2 hours for the entire job...end result no yellow lighted wrench indicator....🙂

On 2005-2011 Crown Vics, don't you have to do some sort of calibration after you touch the throttle body?

Not on the newer models from 2008 thru 2011.. don't need to be calibrated I have a 2011 Crown Vic interceptor clean it and it runs great

I just replaced coils, plugs, both valve cover gaskets, IAC valve, PCV valve and hose and I still have a very rough idle. I'm about to try this out in a minute. If it's not the TB then it's the fuel filter I hope

There is no traditional IAC on DBW Crown Vics, the PCM leaves the butterfly valve open the correct amount for the engine to achieve the desired idle speed without an air bypass.

My 06 P71 is a lurching forward when I’m at high speeds (anything abode 50 MPH), got a code ( P 2107) for throttle body actuator. Cleaned the carbon build up around the intake flap. Car running a little better but thinking I need to calibrate the throttle body. What you think? Car would go into limp mode sometimes and toss the wrench icon on. But when turned off and turned back on was gone

Interesting video. Reason? Was there a problem? Did this procedure remediate the problem? Nothing shown in the video appeared dirty enough to be problematic. Was this just periodic maintenance?

from the "driver's seat" feel, my 2010 felt like it had quite a hesitation between pressing the "gas" and getting a response. My 2008 doesn't have the same feel. So I was hoping this would make the 2010 respond like the 2008 does. It was a big step in the right direction but not a total fix.

@@WJHandyDad Did you ever figure out what it was that completely solved the problem? My 2010 is hesitant when I get on the gas, I bought a new Throttle position sensor and I’m going to replace that when it comes in the mail

@@skipper484 I did the throttle calibration and that seemed to make the biggest difference. It still has the drive by wire lag, but not as bad as it was

i have a grand marquis 2007, works very well except when the engine running idle, I turn on the a/c the rpm slow down, the warning lights of brake and abs tun on, and in few more minutes after that, the car shuts down, but no error is recorded. I have already cleaned the throttle, changed the oxygen sensor, but nothing has helped. Any suggestions?

Late reply but you can unhook battery completely, touch terminal connectors together (completely not touching the actual battery) and drain any power inside the cars pcm to "reset and relearn) the idle.

Curious what torque wrench size I use for torquing the bolts on the throttle body if it's a 1/4" drive and what's a good spec to set the torque wrench at for a 2006 ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor throttle body OEM aka Motorcraft. I should note I also have a Taylor Throttle body spacer inline between the throttle body as well. Any information is greatly appreciated

96-106 inch pounds which is 8 to 8.8 ft lb. I use my 3/8 torque wrench with a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter if I ever need to torque something that I don't have a 3/8 socket for

Will the 🔧 light go off on its own after its clean or do you need to disconnect the battery to reset it?

my experience has been that check engine type lights typically don't go off immediately, but often times will eventually go off. But resetting them is instant.

I let my Crown Vic sit for a week; then, just today, I got in to drive it and noticed that the gas pedal felt 'sticky.' I don't mean that it was becoming stuck-rather, it felt like plastic scraping against plastic. The gas pedal was depressing in abrupt sequences, instead of feeling smooth. Not sure how else to describe it... it just felt like I was stepping on a hydraulic arm made entirely out of plastic that was never lubricated. Would this have anything to do with the throttle body / cable, or could the pedal's hinge simply need some WD-40?

start with the simplest - if it's rubbing against something or needs lubrication do that first (I would say use something better than WD-40 which is a water displacer and not a lubricant). If the throttle cable is binding up (I've only experienced that with bicycles and the only fix is to replace the cable on a bike) then you probably have to replace the cable - but it should bind up just from sitting - it usually requires some physical damage

Have you looked into swapping it out for a 75mm throttle body? I was thinking about doing it on mine but I've heard mixed reviews about it. Mines a 2005 p71

changing only 1 item isn't likely to produce any gains. If you are planning on upgrading heads, intake, and MAF, then changing the TB would be worthwhile. But only changing 1 item not likely to be worth the hassle and cost

That gasket looks very restrictive. Tip for anyone with a old style throttle cable p71. There is no adjustments for the cable. You can use a zip tie on the gas pedal side of the cable to get the slack out. For less than a few pennies you can restore you ability to achieve WOT.

I agree that gasket looks restrictive and I contemplated cutting all that restriction off but opted not to mess with it "just in case." I'll look and see if I have anything useful in regards to the older throttle body. I still have some footage of my 2003 that I might be able to piece together to make a video.

it never hurts to disconnect negative terminal if you don't mind having to reset the clock and have the computer re-learn your driving habits. As for gasket, I always recommend replacing gaskets, but sometimes they can be successfully re-used
