The first generation of the Ford Crown Victoria was introduced in 1979 but in this video, we’re going to focus on the 1991-2011 model and more specifically, the EN114 Crown Victoria that came out in 1998. You missed the biggest possible opportunity and the most distinctive feature about this car. The number one thing that made this car so memorable, so menacing... the headlights were instantly recognizable at night in your rear view mirror, and you never knew if it was a cop, taxi, or grandma behind you, which only added to the anxiety. Any crown Vic needed to have the same headlight design. Just like a mustang or corvette or Ferrari and the tail lights. But you’re European, you don’t know these things.

What a bold video. You opened yourself up to all kinds of criticism, but I applaud you for taking that risk just for the fun of it. Automotive design is something that has fascinated me since I was about 6 or 7 years old. You did a good job of thinking forward. I tend to want to make everything look like it's from the late 60's early 70's; because that's the era I'm obsessed with.

I think it would actually be kinda cool, like ev, with active areo. I say ev, because one of the biggest issues with the previous Daytona was it's closed off nose, which caused issues with overheating. Given that modern engines require even more cooling, you wouldn't really be able to do a closed off nose with them, there would be just way too many reliability issues. But with evs, they still require cooling, but nowhere near as much. I might sketch something up.

Never said the flaws were with reliability. I was more thinking of the 40 year old Panther platform, which incidentally makes it even easier to fix, size (land yacht), obsolescent platform (Ford literally scrapped it because they didn't want to comply with the 2013 federal requirement for stability control or something). However, I totally want to buy one before they go away. Nothing compares to them, I just find them so fucking desirable, as a European. Truly a wonderful car that has no equivalent.

These were designed from the beginning as a commercial vehicle(interceptor, airport limo, taxi, and retail sales almost an afterthought when the initial design was laid out. F150 truck frame w a sedan body that was meant for a minimum service life of 20 yrs w not much more than oil changes. Same 2 valve sohc engine that went into the trucks and designed for max durability and reliability rather than brute power. This engine cannot be killed unless run dry on coolant or oil. The Taurus doesn't use most of Ford's design ques, the Fusion, Mustang, and F150 are good reference points for a Ford looking car.

Yes and no, one of the many great things about modern ford design, is compared to most mainstream brands, they do a great job at differentiating their designs. The Explorer looks nothing like a edge or expedition, the escape doesn't really look like a expedition either. The Ford get speaks for itself, their trucks are diversified etc. So it's hard to say what defines ford design dna at times.

The ford crown victoria started back in 1949. Not 2011. Even wiki got this wrong. My source? Ford motor corporation. Nice job on the redo. Looks good. This year would have marked its 70th anniversary.
