Thank you! That was the BEST discussion of the pros and cons of a double-battery system vs. Jackery "batteries" I have ever heard! Your explanation of the entire charging system (alternators, batteries, controllers, cost breakdown, etc.) was spot on. Maybe you could consider leading some training "camps" for overlanding and photography?

Oh mannn I am loving the vannn. I could totally see going in this direction one day (sshhh...don't tell my subscribers I said that, LOL). I really appreciate your gradual, feel-it-out approach to the build...figure out what's going to make the most sense before getting anything too permanent installed. I also love the multitude of small bins (and that one of them is simply labeled "beer"). I bet that big second monitor has been a game changer for editing! Thanks for the update, looking forward to seeing the ongoing progress as well as the Hell's Canyon trip!

Van is cool, the possibilities are endless. Just a thought, since under the bed is always a hard place to use efficiently, mount your fridge under it with a slide , facing the side door, and it pulls out right in front of the door. It could even pull out the back door if needed. Also, your future captains chair, do both and make your drivers chair turn and service your office. A swing out table, and monitor, behind the driver that swings with an arm from the middle, could be used in three positions. The , bed, the side, and the drivers captain chair. Monitor swing could also be used for movies from all three and the passenger side captain.

The fridge slider is a great solution. Looks like you've got the power issue more than solved. Solar would be nice, but its often shady where you camp in the woods. You have redundency already. My husband and I had an old E350, What a workhorse! The contractor who owned it before us (and he was far from the original owner) used to haul a trailer full of gravel with it. Not to mention all the contractor tools. Anyway it was beat. Rusted, rough and tough. We gave the contractor a bicycle and he gave us the van and $35. My husband put in a junkyard transmission and 2 used 16.5" truck tires and we got so much use out of it. We used to joke that all that van did was make us money. I don't think you'll be comfortable on those totes as a desk chair for long. Can you get a second mount for the lagoon table and put it near the swivel passenger seat? I love your videos.

I like the potential with your van it is something we have considered. Its great to see your trial and error process. Most videos don’t show that part and it is a huge part of the build process. That propane, it needs to be outside the van. If it leaks or the over pressure valve goes it would fill your van in seconds. It can explode or displace all of your oxygen. Strap it to the side or get a tank underneath.

My small SUV works for me but to have so much room to move around in and store things would be a huge pleasure. Good luck with the build. Have you thought about putting a rear view camera mounted to your roof rack so you can see what's behind you at all times. Not to be confused with a back up camera. The side view mirrors do an adequate job but you still have a blind spot. The rear view camera will eliminate that blind spot. I put one on my slide in truck camper, when I still had it, and now have one mounted to my micro trailer. The cameras operate via bluetooth to a monitor in the cab area. Providing power to the camera is not a problem and I'm sure you'd be able to do it.

You now have two vehicles and two sleeping setup. Sell one. Keep the van. Make sure it's in order. Move the awning on it and enjoy. You have great territory to explore and less worry with only one setup to maintain. And if you regret it. There will be other f250 for sale somewhere!

put your frig / freezer on sliders under the front side of your bed. Then it opens up the center of the van. Put the tubs in the rear on that slider you talked about. Move tubs not used as much in your trailer.

Lovin it. Kinda the way I'm going with my build. I have a 1986 Chevy c20 lifted 4x4 with a 12valve Cummins diesel. I'm going to build 14" deep garage wall. I like to sit up straight on my bed that will be side to side 25" wide. Camp Chef oven stove. Xtreampower 52 quart fridge. Bluetti 1500wh solar generator. It will power the fridge 7 day's without a charge. 2 170watt solar panels. Railroad tie bumpers and an Oshkosh military ladder. Sun deck. Plus much more. Oh yeah OD green bedliner paint. 3/8" chains for mud flaps. 😁

It's nice that you have the van, plus the Drifter Trailer. This set-up gives you lot's of flexibility. I could well envision continuing to sleep in the trailer, and fitting out the van as an office/video studio, and lounge space. That bed takes up a lot of space in the van that could be better used as office, lounge space. Will you be putting an awning on the curb side of the van? Stay safe & go far.
@ronhart41664 жыл бұрын
I would think , With your height. You might think about going vertical with your bed. There are a lot of builds on line with the pull out extensions to make a wider bed if needed. you would still have a ton of storage under the bed also.

Great video, I have a 98 E-350 with a 73 powerstroke so I'm very interested in your video. FYI - when I went to your link for Dual Battery Components you use all the pics are blank and there is no text. I would love to see the model of your Renogy DC to DC. The biggest Renogy I found on Amazon was a 60A which requires a 90A fuse. I'm wondering how you can run a 200A Alternator and not blow the Renogy fuse.

I like that you are working it out how you want your van instead of "making it perfect" for KZbin. I enjoy it. So, are you liking the van better than your trailer? Ive watched my fair share of "van life" videos & a huge bed area always seems to be a big issue to work around. Heres my idea, what if instead you had some sturdy hammock hooks built into the walls of the van? I know hammocks aren't for everyone but i find them quite comfortable. Would save alot of space since you can pack most hammocks into a small bag & throw into a drawer 😊

Any thought or heard of just using a camp style hammock instead of a framed in bed? Like on a boat, fold it out of the way and virtually no weight. Anchor points would be the biggest problem.

Jason, the bed as it stands now is an issue. i think having a 'static' bed as you do, is wasting a lot of space. An idea could be to have a single (longer) bed that would flip up and down against the side of the van, behind the driver's seat. That way you'd have the whole space of the van to yourself throughout the day and maybe structure it more like an office. To that effect I'd change the monitor to the opposite wall and place the fridge beneath it. I really think you could structure the van in such a way that you could SELL the trailer and travel a LOT lighter with just the van. Best of luck buddy! Keep them good videos coming!

In your bed setup, do you have to crawl around on your knees to access anything? My ford e-350 setup has the bed drivers side longways. I'm 6'. I'm never on my knees. Everything is accessed from sitting on my bed or the back doors.

Since you are a full-timer a 200ahr Lithium battery would more than likely nearly double your usable power and would weigh about half as much. Yes, the cost is higher but the warranty is almost always 5-10 years and the number of recharge cycles is a lot higher which over time could very easily end up being cheaper since it won't require replacement nearly as often.

Your bed is perpendicular to the length of the space, that is cutting you off from accessing the entire length of the van. Maybe think about putting the bed to either the left or right side of the van so you can walk or at least move beside the bed and still access the rest of the space. Also, putting a slide inside your van for a fridge seems silly to me. Move your fridge. I'd put it so when you open the back of the van, its right there at the rear doors. That means you are cooking outside, but for safety reason, that makes sense anyway.
