Personally I see this becoming a thing in Europe not America
@vince0867 жыл бұрын
The issue is these things are highly regulated in some European countries, so you would need a license + insurance (insurance can be stupidly expensive). Personally I would love one to go to work and back but last time I checked to get insured on a 49cc model it was going to cost me €1700 a year.
@MK-je7kz7 жыл бұрын
There are ton of scooter/motorbike shops everywhere in Europe, so I doubt that anybody finds their way to a Ford car dealership to buy a scooter.
@adamkimmV7 жыл бұрын
Mopeds are already really cheap, especially the fuel. Like Vincent said insurance is the main cost. Here in the UK average moped insurance is around £300, and you could get a second hand moped for that price no problem. So there really isn't any advantage to using an electric moped.
@Re_Kitty7 жыл бұрын
Vincent what shitty European country do you live in? Insuring a Porsche Boxter would cost me €1400/yr and any electric scooter that doesn't go past 250 watts nominal is free to ride for anyone without any license. These scooters and others like it are already extremely popular in city centers around here.

To be honest, this one is really expensive for what it is, if you want an electric transporter, there are way cheaper options and even nicer looking ones without paying for the "Ford" logo. Just google search electric transporter and/or scooter and you'll see a slew of them.
@TheLillianYoung6 жыл бұрын
Omair Bhore I like the idea, but I believe that in urban environments, it’s as cumbersome (due to regulations) as a Vespa. For instance, where to park it? Is it street legal? What about sidewalks? When the battery dies, what does one do with it? For those reasons, I could see this in country, rural or suburban areas moreso until and unless they are regulated for urban areas. Leave it to me, I’d rather this than the CitiBikes in NYC.

Ok serious question, how do you keep it from getting stolen? For example, if you decide to drive it to the grocery store, what do you do with it when you're inside? Could you lock it up? Do you need to take into the store with you? I'm so interested to hear customer reviews and stuff. I live in the Portland, Or area and could see something like this being potentially useful if it wouldn't get stolen...
@chesshooligan12827 жыл бұрын
It WOULD get stolen. Thieves love bicycles, motorbikes, and scooters, and this gadget has an extremely high value/weight ratio and is difficult to lock properly. My bet is under normal use, it wouldn't last you a few months. You're better off with a regular scooter and a thick chain and padlock + alarm and GPS, and even that doesn't guarantee it won't get stolen.
@DodoIsFly7 жыл бұрын
Jen Muller We have an electric scooter, or pretty much any scooter, if you pull out the key, you wont be able to move the steering wheel at all, maybe they have something so the wheels dont turn as well without the keys, so your only option would be to carry the whole thing as a thief
@jenmuller76847 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I didn't know you could lock the steering. I think I'm perhaps a little paranoid about the idea of spending so much money without any security tech added to at least deter theft or help you track it back down. I'll put off getting a scooter and watch to see how the tech evolves over time.
@chesshooligan12827 жыл бұрын
No, you're not being paranoid. I've had 5 bicycles and 3 motorbikes stolen, and I lock them properly. The steering lock is going to do bugger all. There are plenty of videos on KZbin of motorbike thieves breaking the steering lock of big bikes with their leg muscles, without any tools. Here's one, but there are plenty more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH65pX6Pd9loh5I

This would be great in places where it’s welcomed and for people with personal property or garages. I live and work in NYC. This looks too much like a Vespa. I’d likely get stopped if on a bike trail with it. Another issue for me when considering e-rideable is the what to do with it at your destination test. Again, this is like a Vespa. I’d have to keep it outdoors. That’s a challenge in NYC. Hopefully one day the regulations will loosen so that riders have more options with fewer ticketing risks.
