My ‘03 Eddie Bauer (same dolor as yours in the video) had this issue. Replaced fuel pump first. Ran fine for months... then the dreaded relay box repair came next. That box was about 800 bucks too😧

This is exactly what happened to my 2003 ford expedition Eddie Bauer!! I decided to get rid of her because I don't want my family to be in a scary situation. I do miss my baby though :(

I have a 08 Ford Expedition EL( or LE) and lately it’s been stalling when put in reverse after running for a little bit. Took it to Walmart for oil change 3 days ago, drove it 2 miles and it was knocking so bad that it sounded like a diesel! Checked oil and it appears to be a little over filled but not sure how much. The receipt shows they added 7 quarts and looks like they didn’t change the oil filter at all. When I called, they got extremely rude and said they did nothing wrong! Do you know what would cause my suv to stall in reverse and what could cause it to sound like a diesel with that loud knocking? My husband changed the coil and we thought that’d fix it but nope! I really appreciate ANY advice you could give me/us! My hubby used to service all our vehicles but he’s had cancer twice and now suffers with kidney issues because of it. P0305 code before replacing coil but no engine lights on now. The vehicle sounds like a a diesel so something’s wrong and we can’t afford to put it in a shop.

another problem with these Fords Expeditions , the fuel tanks , no longer available . they start to leak from the evap connection because they crack ! all tanks in the salvage yard are all cracked and junk as well , Lol ! the best fix is to drop the tank , this is how i did my repair and fuel pump replacements and now repair , drop the tank remove fuel pump , and drain all gas out and take tank to the car wash and wash and scrub the crap inside and out of it , usually there is alot of sand and gunk in there , and make it like new again ! go to wal-mart buy some dawn dish liquid and a tooth brush and a soldering iron , wash really good scuff with 600 sand paper and melt the plastic in a circular motion to a puddle , until the crack is completely sealed fill with water to make sure no more leaks , gravity drain with hose , and dry with paper towels . what i also did was put some JB weld 2 part epoxy for extra strength , back in action under $ 40.

Could a bad junction box contribute to cold start issues? We haven't had a problem with it stalling but we have to cycle the key a few times so it will start correctly. It seems to be a lack of fuel pressure whether it is due to a bad fuel pump or junction box.

So if the relay is internal how do you fix the problem. replacing the junction box? Having the exact same problem😡

No, junction box is $400-500, new relay in ebay is $$8-12, which one you like better?? Ford uses cheap Chinese-made under calculated relays, buy one made in Korea, just take junction box out, unsolder old one, one in a middle is fuel pump relay, and you are fine ! Nothing else is wrong with that junction box, so DON"T BUY A NEW BOX!!!

My 05 is doing this got the cam sensor code replaced them both code is clear still shutting off doing much more often now. Any ideas?

I had the same identical problem with a 2004 Expedition. I took out the junction box, desoldered and removed the same bad relay ,(which was burnt) and replaced it with a new one from ebay for $8.00, fixing the problem.

Cool. I just ran an external relay to mine yesterday so if it ever happens to me again I can easily swap the relay.

I have a 2000 windstar sometimes it stalls and sometimes it doesn't, there has been a few times when I put it in park to start it but it doesn't then I press on the gas pedal and it starts. It always has an engine light on, on the dash and when it stalls the battery light turns on too

Nice- is there a reason one would not suspect the signal return as well for for the loss of voltage to the fuel pump relay. Would I be correct in saying the ground to the relay is switched. That looks like a nasty panel replacement - WOW.

The ground on the activation side is switched by the computer. Technically the activation side of the relay, either the power or the ground, could be causing this problem. The thing is, all of the power side for relay activation is also in the junction block, and part of the ground side is as well. This problem could be caused by the computer, but history has shown that it's usually one of two things, the junction block, or the fuel pump. If you wanted to be more thorough and check out the function of the computer at the same time as these other things, you could use a second volt meter and hook it up where the ground wire for relay activation goes into the computer. With the engine running, or even when the engine is beginning to die you should have 0 volts on that line. If you see 12 volts appear and then the engine dies, it would mean the ground for relay activation is being lost by the computer for some reason.

For curiosity sake, can you test the relay without using the fuel pressure gage? If the voltage is dropping while it starts to stall, wouldnt it give you the same result? And if the voltage doesnt drop, it could then be a pump issue? Just curious, I am not the best skilled at this, just curious.

got the same issue that engine stalls after a while i can start the vehicle with no problems. After 20 min driving bam stalls again and wait a while and drive with no other issues or codes. Though it was my fuel pump, evap canister, driver module corrision, or relay. It looks like there is two relays for the fuel pump in the box. Gonna check them both. BTW I change my idles air sensor(vibrations) and my tps sensor(stalls engine) both worned out out with no codes, both helped my 2003 lincoln navigator regain power. Any comments of other things relay that might help me out. REPLY thanks.

Question.... I was having the same issue, however, each time I went to start the vehicle, the 102 fuse would blow. Every time. So, I replaced the entire circuit junction box and once I put the new one on. The 102 fuse blew again! Wiring??

I have a 2000 expedition and it cranks n runs, but when u give it gas its dies or idle real badly. just did a full tune up new plus coil paks injectors all new vacuum hoses. could it be the fuel pump even tho it only cuts out when giving it gas???

I have a 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer I can get it to move in reverse but when I put it in drive the vehicle will not move I tried it in 2nd gear and 1st gear and it still will not move anywhere I changed out the neutral safety switch and I still cannot get it to move but it will move perfect in reverse and somebody please tell me what it could be fast if possible thank you hope to hear from somebody soon with a solution to fix it

I'm sorry but I replace the pumps too because the relay is overloaded with amps and too many with burnt relays because of draw from pump like bower resisters

NO, No, you don't need a new junction box, which is like $400-500??, just a new fuel pump relay, cost about $8-12 in ebay, just take junction box out, and unsolder the middle relay= fuel pump relay, and solder new one in and you are done. Nothing else is wrong in the junction box!!! Ford uses cheap, Chinese-made relays, they are uncalculated, buy one made in Korea, and there you go!! Done this, only problem is relay, so DON'T BUY A NEW JUNCTION BOX!!!

Instead of replacing the piece of crap integrated relay on mother board , why dont you cut the wires of that board and heat shrink a separate relay , that way if it does go out again just swap out that relay ! Why Ford does this crap is beyond me ! Chevys have their boards in the engine bay and if you need to swap a relay , its a piece of cake ! not integrated ! i would not even take that board apart and solder a new one in , Why ? nope , and even if those boards were still available , about $800. nope

After reading these comments, I think it is a gummed up IAC, idle air control, that is causing most if not all of these problems. Especially stalling in idle, or coming to a stop in traffic. Then you give it a minute, then it starts up like nothing is wrong.
