This is going to come in handy when I remove the dash to fix or replace the dimmer switch in my Mountaineer some people on Explorer Forum say that these switches can be repaired and I'm going to try it,I wish I'd known how to properly remove the dashboard, tried it the other day without much luck.

Great post man!! My bulb just burned out in my 99 mountaineer so perfect. For the gentlemen with the stuck rings spray some pb blaster in your cylinders now and don't be shy. This will make your life easier down the road!! If you can set your motor so the pb blaster flows towards the crank it's a plus.

Great, I need to replace a brake indicator light. It looks like you do too. It did not come on when you turned the key or set the brake. Mine came on starting the car. It was the parking brake switch. I greased it and it now works. Yours should come on when the key is turned and you put on the parking brake. It did not so something needs fixed.

Good video, but that missing metal plate is designed to deflect your knees down under the dash in an impact. Without it your knees could go into the dash structure and really mangle your legs. I've been tempted to remove it on several of my vehicles to drop a bit of weight, but then I think about how much I like my knees, and I put it back. 😁

Burned out air bag light most likely. It's the same type bulb as he replaced in the video. Lower LH corner of the dash, it should flash when you turn the key. If not it's probably burned out.

I have another short shaft 1500XS Circle C block Inline 6 Mercury. Picked it up in trade for work. Don't know if it's going on this boat for some more umph or another lighter hull for some balls to the wall skipping across the water.

I know this video is around 4 years old, but I’m gunna be “that guy”... WHY the hell, did you do this, and not just replace all the fuckin bulbs with LED’s?

Because LEDs under the slightest amount of amperage glow dimly. Especially in vehicles that were not outfit for LEDs. All my other newer vehicles have LEDs. I still have the explorer, and the light still works fine. Fyi- those factory lights worked fine for 14years. No need to upgrade to leds.

cturboaddict -HMMMMMM I’ve replaced every light bulb in my 2004 Explorer with LEDS, all I have left to go is the headlights and instrument cluster, none of my lights are dim or ever dim, except the cargo lights, but they are made to dim and fade to off after to start the truck. Oh by the way, thanks for your video, I’m about to replace my instrument cluster lights, and and watching videos daily to kind of talk myself into the job. I’ve never liked doing any work on or under the dash of a vehicle Thanks again!

Shouldn't you have disconnected the battery _after_ popping it into 1st? I dunno, because I'm about to do it myself soon, and get LED's, but idk which LED's work best for it, I've seen 3 options, but, idk.

no way to do mine w/out putting in first. lol. Two bolts under radio there before that will come up. Mine had a red push button that is apparently an alarm kill? Left of the column..and a nice tight wire so you have to CUT the wire tie underneath there. THe connectors on the stinking two things on the left need a screwdriver propped on the plastic piece that keeps it from disconnecting. oh well was trying to find a video that shows what the heck the single annoying thing is that comes in under the cluster..is tight and I pull it and there's some..little cable inside. Good grief. ALWAYS something nobody else has seen it seems when I do these jobs

worked precise for me but when reinstalled my oil gauge got pass the stop what did i do wrong it moves but in location pass the stop

yes there is a stop at 4pm on gauge and the hand is below the stop, when i start engine it drops another quarter inch why is it below the stop?

Yea, I’m that shithead on KZbin that likes to reply back to 3 year old comments and questions. That “oil pressure” gauge is a dummy, it’s fake, best thing to do it grab a real one at the auto parts store, or amazon, and put a real one in that accurately shows your oil pressure. I just found out about this myself last week, and will be putting one in my 04 Explorer in a few weeks.

hey bud it's Frank from California if you could help me on this one buddy I noticed when I put my charge my cell phone on the cigarette lighter I replace the fuse it blew a fuse before I replace a fuse I know it's I use the other side to use my GPS I know it's the middle of the hazard light when you push down a little small smoke comes up do I have a bad ground somewhere buddy?

There is a way to turn that finger OFF, for the “key in ignition “ alert, and the “seatbelt” dinger, you can find a video on KZbin how to shut them off, it’s easy and involves turning your key on and off in a certain way a certain amount of times, I shit my dingers off, but I suggest leaving the one for your “lights on” alarm ON, I shit mine off and ended up draining my battery a few times, but it’s nice not hearing that fucking bell telling me to put on my seatbelt. I’m on my phone right now or I would find the link and pass it on, I bet you can find it.
