Ford Explorer RWD review | Can Ford put it up to the Volkswagen ID.4 and its competitors?

As a self confessed Ford fan. This company has currently completely lost its way. The European division will soon become irrelevant if they don't start making cars that their customers actually want. Realistically they only have 2 models the Puma and the Kuga. Zero point in telling consumers that replacement models are coming down the line they will just purchase from another brand why should they need to wait. I can't stress enough that they need to react faster. They have huge competition in the market while they are standing still and worse yet releasing ridiculous mutation models like the Capri and Mustang Mach-E that will never be volume sellers. KA, Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, B Max, C Max, S Max, Galaxy etc all gone. SUVs might be in vogue but don't drop models until you have replacements on the forecourts ready to drive.

They haven’t lost their way. Volume selling is no longer the way for Ford. They just need to build better cars than the competitors. And this Explorer is far better than its ID4 counterpart, and cheaper when it comes to similar specs. We all want RS’s, ST’s, Mondeo’s etc, but literally nobody was buying them.

Bro the customer approach does not want mainstream cars anymore and what can ford do for that . They are not govt company . They are loosing a lot of money on these mainstream that no one is buying They were patient till 2020 hoping to make profits but in 2021 when they saw the all new expensive mustang mach e outselling the mondeo. Thru discontinued the mondeo So does the s max galaxy etc They didn't loose there way In France They outsold the id4 with the explorer ev last month They sell the best selling phev in europe with the kuga Get your facts right before commenting This explorer here is awesome

I am big Ford fan and have owned multiple Ford products in my years Cortina, Sierra, Escort, Fiesta, Focus, Ka, Mondeo,Ranger to mention a few. Very disappointed on how they have lost their way with products. This has caused me to look elsewhere.

Similar for Me, I was an big fan of Ford by last 16 yrs, now I'm looking for other Cars ex KIA EV3 that's in a lot of things more interesting car and even much cheaper than this Ford...

I am not really a Ford fan but we drove two Galaxy's when our kids grow up and we loved them. When I saw the first Ford Explorer video it flashed me directly with it's rough design - a bit of American SUV style which I love. Technically, I trust the - now much improved and reliable - Volkswagen MEB plattform but the design of the VW ID.4 is so boring for me. The Skoda Enyaq was in my bucket list, but my better half of me was not willing to drive this quite long car in the town 😞 After several videos, first test drive, and talks with the Ford dealer we decided to order the Explorer🙂 For me, the Ford Explorer has the right length and an excellent handling - plus it is in the same configuration around 10k€ below the price tag of the Enyaq. Additional, we got a fair discount. With the good ground clearance I can drive it on rough forrest roads for hunting and the range is good for long trips as well. We can't wait to get it in December. It is the nearly perfect match for us! Side note: The Ford Explorer and the most of it's components are build in Europe! For me an important argument. I can't remember to got ever any salary from Korea or China. We are living, working, and earning our money in Europe. And the most of us are earning way more than an Asian worker or engineer. Maybe, a KIA, Hyundai, Geely, ... is some thousand euro cheaper, but if we don't buy "our" own products we are killing step by step our industry and the future for us and our kids,. i.e. Vehicle to grid or vehicle - to - home capability. 🧩 Allowing energy from your car to be used to power your home, or to be fed back into the national electricity grid to support renewable energy storage and thus balance peak load use.

I think the Explorer is too close to the price of the Mach-E. I was hoping they could improve the efficiency of the manufacturing of the Mach-E and lower the price instead. Especially new batteries should allow the long range version to go down in price. And of course build a smaller and clearly cheaper EV. The Explorer looks nice but still costs a lot.

Boot capacity... video review says 490 litres, written review says 470 litres, Ford says 450 litres. By the time you buy this car, it'll be down to 430 litres...

The one year delay makes no difference. The Scenic, EV3 or whatever are no better.

@@sharonec5419 Based on specs. The Explorer now has the brand new VW motor and is also a lot more powerful than de Scenic, EV3. The battery is just as good etc. So because of the delay it has become even better.

That year's delay was good for something. We are very likely getting the best that the MEB platform has to offer right now, and that wasn't here a year ago. I believe this is in fact Explorer 2.0, whereas a year ago we would have gotten Explorer 1.0. I'm not saying there's nothing to improve. It's a shame that the platform doesn't allow for V2X standards. But still, Ford managed to do the Explorer EV well. They didn't explicitly screw anything up on it. And unlike all the ID.'s and other challengers, I like it.

@petrbasa5742 I would say it's more like Explorer 1.2. With 1.5 to come in a couple of years and then 2.0. But yes, the batteries in them are a lot better now than they would have have been it come out a year ago.

@@ronb.6945 Explorer is much more expensive than EV3 and even doesn't have frunk? V2L capability? For Me KIA EV3 is much more complete car than Explorer in much lower price tag that will in result keep the limit

Car design has become so boring .. no flair, cheap plastics, iPad screens.. no driver engagement and prices that would choke an elephant !
