@@topcan5600 The flow depends on what size chokes are in the carbs. Thats the wonderful thing about those that you can easy change the cfm and jetting. I would guess its flowing around 750-850 depending on the rpm range the engine was built for.

Big bore, short stroke is the beginning of a recipe for high RPM and POWER!! In the 60s I had a Fairlane with a 289/2 barrel. In the early 1970s, car manufacturers were detuning their engines for emissions and improvements in mpg. After you reversed a detuned engine, you had an engine that was born to run. In the 1970s, I modified a 455 in my '73 Toronado, a 390 in my '72 Ford pickup and a 460 in my '77 Mark V. Ahhh yes ! The good ol' days of push you back in your seat torque.

Question on the "Forged Crank". I contacted SCAT and EAGLE about 5 yrs ago asking about such an animal. They said one does exist in their offerings. I then asked about a custom crank, and was told that they do no make any cranks with less than a 3" stroke. So has this changed or did you get a Forged 302 (3.00" Stroke) crank and have it destroked down to a 289 (2.87" Stroke)? Thanks, Ron

I'm assuming you've already built your engine but yes, the higher the static compression ratio (volume of cylinder at bottom center : volume of cylinder at top dead center) the higher the octane rating you'll need. Now I'm curious, DID you build your motor and how did it turn out?
