I changed my belts 3 years ago. Big belt did ok but I gave up on the power steering one & got a garage to do it. Since then I have had a squeak from the PS belt. I've only today got around to fixing the problem. I cut the belt off, and cleaned the pulley as it had rubber stuck inside the groves & I didn't clean it last time. I used your technique of using cardboard which worked a treat! Now no squeaking! So happy. Thanks for this video, it helped :)

Looks fine to me. Just a few pointers. Cut the old belts instead of getting them out. Easier and you do not risk damaging anything with the pry bar(long screw driver) Second is, when you removed the old belts, make sure you clean the pullies from any grease and debris from the old belt. Since you have the belts out, might as well test the pullies if they turn easy without excess movement and free of rust and debris. If you plan on using lubricants, make sure none go in to contact with the belts. Otherwise they will react with the rubber and may cause your belts to degrade quickly Thirdly: Make sure before you move the crankshaft of the engine you remove the spark plugs and try to always turn the engine in its normal operating turn(clockwise) Once you have installed the new belts, try the tension on them(Google how much they need to have) And that's it. P.S. I also find this method of installation easier then with the accessories provided with the belts!

ive seen a similar thing done with a cambelt, slice along through the middle so the belt is half cut all the way round, fit the new belt upto the old, cut the old belt off, push on the new.

I have seen it done, does look alot simpler to do

Usually a good idea to change the tensioner and idler pulley (if it has idler pulleys) no point in doing half a job and it fail in a month or two and cost you an engine

Did my daughters today. Cut the old ones off. Sods to get on. Cardboard never worked. Large belt kept slipping off. I eventually used a small flat pry bar on both. I got there in the end. Hard working off the floor.

@IvegotaroughideaDIYchannel Жыл бұрын
I believe they are called either a flare trim clip or a fir tree clip according to Ford. Cable ties do the job well tho 🙂 They are for sale on Fords website and also are available on Ebay with lots of variety, thanks for watching and good luck 🙂

If you buy the belts direct from Ford it comes as a kit with a set of tools to install the belts from memory I think it's about 35 quid
@IvegotaroughideaDIYchannel3 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, £35 for belts and the tools?

Mine were genuine Ford parts and the only "tool" it came with was some form of bolt and it wasn't used in the job.

Do NOT remove the alternator to change the belt as its almost impossible to rebolt the alternator up again with the new belt on it unless you got arms like the hulk , I tried it and failed badly as its not like the old V belts on older cars .The alternator has no tension adjustment on it as the tension is created by the belt stretch itself. Faster to cut the old belts off as its much easier to wind on the new belt than wind off the old belt.

Did I used a wrong way to remove and place my fiesta's fan belt by removing a alternator when taking it out and hook the belt on the alternator before placing it back? It became much easier than I thought. I thought of this method after realizing that it's surely doesn't stretch that much.
@IvegotaroughideaDIYchannel4 жыл бұрын
You can do it that way but I found this way easier as I didn't want to remove the alternator.
@andythorn30993 жыл бұрын
I thought about doing it that way after putting a new alternator in, but I thought it would be too hard to lift the alternator up into place under tension from the belt. I wish I had done that now but I can't be bothered to take the alternator out again! I will try I've got a rough idea's way, but I don't have any jacks or a lift. So if I get stuck for clearnace I may well have to try your method and remove the alternator again. Glad it worked out for you

@andreasmfanafuthiyeleni4473 жыл бұрын
@@कार्टूननेट I'm not gonna lie. In my case I have a lot of spanners, so I just pick the right size and untie, then the fan belt gets loose. That means you can now change it, as long as you noticed how the older one goes.

They should be 2 different sizes. Also you need to check if yours has air con. One should be around 692 and the other one should be around 1019. You can buy one that is around 1042 but that may give you too much slack.
