I try to avoid removing anything if it’s not absolutely necessary to avoid liability issues. “Since you changed my shocks…”

Well a smarter person would have taken the tire off to see things a little better and an easier time. Plus, if you had a battery tool, you could get it in there easier. But a torque wrench helps with the wheel nutstoo.
