Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI engine noise

FIXED MINE. Like others mine started in and around time i changed timing belt, I had used the SKF kit. The noise seemed to come from either injection pump or water pump and had slowly got worse. I noticed a few drops of coolant on the pump. Which is normal when first changed. Some even have a chamber so as not to alarm people. However 13 months and 10,000 miles it shouldn't be there. I inspected the tensioner, it was correct. I noticed other people with other engines having the same issue and changing to an oem tensioner had cured it. So I decided to change to an oem tensioner (INA) £15 and oem water pump (Pierberg) £35 in case it was damaged, and BAM! silence. I didn't get them from Volvo, Peugeot, Citroen as the prices are hugely inflated, the are just reboxed. I zoomed in on oem kit pictures to figure out the original manufacturers. I didn't change the belt, but for reference the oem belts is a Dayco. Hopefully its gone for good.

in my focus I changed the distribution kit (@ 170000km) and the noise went away. now it has 245000km and is still ok

Buna. Exact asa mergea si al meu, am fost la service nu am depistat nimic pana nu am demontat distributia nici un rulment stricat pompa de apa ok, doar din greseala sau din noroc am observat ca intinzatorul era agatat si tinea intins cureaua de distributie si din cauza asta a avut acel zgomot (doar in directa catre intins misca) , mentionez ca in distributie am avut 40000km pana acum mergea ok. Am schimbat distributia si merge ok! Drumuri bune va doresc.

@@paulpop4932 eu am schimbat distribuţia şi a dispărut, mie intinzătorul s-a agățat şi ţinea prea întins cureaua şi de acolo a fost zgomotul menţionez că numai 40000km am avut în distribuție. Acum merge fără niciun zgomot.

I put a new cam belt kit on : belt : tensioner : pulley : water pump! Noise gone now think it was the water pump.

I have exact same noise on my focus straight after cam belt and water pump change , this was 17k miles ago and car runs fine but Noise is annoying now , could you tell me wot You did to fix please

I had the same issue I replaced only the belt and the noise went away. During the installation of the belt Start by the crankshaft then water pump, tensioner, fuel pump hp camshaft and finally the idler.

Salut! Ai rezolvat cumva? Si la mine face la fel, am schimbat kit distributie si pompa de apa + curea accesorii si intinzator-ul, si degeaba sunetul a reaparut. Se aude doar cand se incalzeste si doar la relanti.

Salut. Eu am schimbat pompa de motorină și după un an a reapărut. Tot la cald si la relanti. Bănuiesc că este rulment de la pompa, dar am lasat-o asa si merg până pica.

Injection pump. I replaced it and the noise disappeared.

Vio Ursu is it injection (high pressure) pump? I have all timing belt and all bearings done. Water pump too. Engine sound the same as on video. Did you have the same? Thanks

Yes many hundreds. Or you could get a used part for 50 and it will maybe not fail also.

Top Gun it's the water pump had the same noise fit a new pump and noise is gone

Am schimbat pompa de motorina si a disparut sunetul. Dupa 2 ani a aparut iar si se aude dupa ce se incalzeste. E posibil ca un zgomot asemanator sa vina de la role sau pompa de apa.

mulțumesc.la fel apare și la mine după ce se încălzește. Mă gândeam să schimb distribuția înainte de pompa. Cu toate că am 15.000 după schimbare.

Ia-le in ordinea costului de reparatie. In prima faza ia un spray de curele si da pe cureaua de accesorii. Apoi verifica intinzatorul de la curea, apoi fulia de la vilbrochen. Abia dupa astea treci la distributie, pompa motorina si altele.

You have to get off kit distribution and injection pump before giving the injection pump down, check distribution (rollers and water pump)

Vio Ursu hum.. the sound in my car is quite alike although more discrete.. water pump actually tends to fail (sealing and bearing), had it replaced with only 77kkm, right now I'm on top of 200kkm. Perhaps the slightly lost of coolant during the year explains where the problem might be.. inclinated for the water pump. Let's see if the sound increases like in the video.

I was told the cam belt is to tight aswell. Or maybe need new pulley ?!?

In my car was the same after changing the timing belt , it was to fast , then need it to do again and released to normal and the belt nose gone

@@dannywaterman2366 well on my i just did released and that whoosh gone , i didn't change anything cos i did just 1000 km after changed the belt , so i don't know how many km did u drive after changed the belt , in my wasn't damaged pump or belt

nuhi konjusha I’ve only had the car 2 months when I brought it it didn’t make a sound was perfect then on way home I noticed this noise only when clutch pressed or in stationary! Don’t want to throw money at it ! But also I don’t want cam to snap :( the previous owner said he changed the cambelt in the summer. They must of known there was this noise but having changed parts they may of assumed something eles who knows. Cars are pain in the butt...!!!
