Had my 2007 1.6 petrol for 6 years now. It was my first car, had it for two years before giving it to my partner and buying a insignia. Inaignia broke a year ago, so boyfriend points she has a new honda and I am back in my ford focus again! Such a good car, only replaced front coils since I owned it

I found it through auto trader and then went to the dealer and bought it in person. A decent service history is more important than mileage as the 1.6 petrol is a strong, simple and reliable engine. That one had 108,000 when I got it and never had a problem but just for general wear on the car I'd say around 100,000 is probably the highest you want to go milage wise. Things to look out for the engine has no plastic cover like most modern cars do and that means if the car sits a lot water can end up standing on top of the blakc and seize the spark plugs in place, just open the bonnet before the car is turned on at all to see if there is water there or any of the bolts in the top of the engine look corroded, also lift up the boot carpet to see if water has ever got in as sometimes the seals can fail. There are also general thing you want to check buying any used car which there are many articles/videos on but this one covers everything you need to know kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGHGlqWjmNCSjrs You can also find good deals on Facebook market place but remember if you're buying from an individual it's vital you make sure the car has history, take a mechanic or mechanically minded friend with you to look at the car and HPi check it with the AA website to make sure it's not stolen and doesn't have pending finance at www.theaacarcheck.com/ It's still a good idea to do those things if your buying from a dealer but if they lie to you you'll have more power for recourse under the Law than buying privately.

Ford are known for their reliability. Engine wise, it depends on what sort of mileage you're going to be doing. If you're just city driving, go with a petrol as a diesel needs a good blast down the motorway so the DPF doesn't get clogged. As long as the mileage is backed up, the car has a good service history and the belts have been changed at the appropriate milage, you're okay with 100 - 120k. I've personally found, the biggest thing you have to look out for on these focus's is rust on the arches and the lower seals. I've got a 2010 face-lift 1.6 TDCI and i've not had a single issue with the car.

If you are only getting 30mpg then its your driving m8 , i had a focus MK2 zetec sport 1.6 petrol for 7 years loved that car , the car easliy done 50MPG if my right foot wasnt heavy. 4000 RPM at 70 mine was doing about just under 3500 at 70MPH , maybe your focus has a underlining promblem , i would check the sparks coil pack and HT leads if you still got the motor. Good video by the way liked and subcrided. Got a 2018 mk4 focus now love it.

No mine was around 3500 at 70 also, it was at 4k at "motorway speeds". You know, on a private motorway, in Mexico 😅. I definitely drove with a heavy foot but mostly cause it was too much fun not to. Unfortunately this car met its end via being rear ended by a young chap on a quad bike with no licence plates, I suspect he might not have had a licence either but he didn't stay around to chat.
